For the components that are stacked up right above each other, the interconnect cables only need to be a few inches. Anything longer looks like a ratsnest and creates unwanted crosstalk/interference.

Does anyone know where to buy very short cables 6 inches or less?

How about taking a poll?
Let's just take RCA cables since everyone has them.
What length for a short cable would help you?
(length of cable listed below does NOT include the length of the RCA plug itself, it is just the length of cable...and remember there should be a bend radius, not a 90 degree bend.)
1) 3"
2) 6"
3) 9"
4) 12"
5) 18"
6) 24"

Buy some cable and connectors and make your own to suit your needs, its quite simple, all you need is a soldering iron(and solder), side cutters, and to make life easier a pair if strippers. This is what I do for all my cable requirements.

cheers:)

I dont know how you could use 3" cables for anything, by the time you faced them inward you'd be left with an inch.....lol.....hehe

I would not worry about the issues you think may be there;)
If cables are too short, good luck solving problems later.
Start with 18" if you must. Monster used to make such short interconnects. But, if there are less expensive cable brands with such lengths, by all means, buy the less expensive cable.:D
But, I think you will have to settle on 1m.

I used to have a couple RCA patch bays, and bought 12" cables by the dozen premade. My guess is that is still common in small studios, and still sold by commercial studio supply places like Markertek.com.

IMHO terminating a cable to a plug, when you want a bunch or cheap, is a DANDY job for some machine in china to do for me.

I find that having a pair of strippers on hand makes everything in life a little easier to take.

I always have wire strippers handy, <chipped tooth grin>

Coax I use a spinner on, double blade goody that cuts jacket, sheild, down to center wire at the same time.
