Sherwood RX-4105 $69 Can ya go wrong?

For less then $70.00 can you really go wrong? It's non returnable and I don't know how much the shipping is yet, but $70.00!!!!!

I just need a stereo receiver for my bedroom. It won't get used much and not listened to critically. I just want something to listen to when getting ready in the morning.

Not really. It offers more a lot quality and sound than their price implies.

Over the past few years I've implemented two of these for non-audiophile friends who wanted something decent, but not expensive and desrved morethan the typical BPOS stuff that sells in packages for a lot more..

Both are still running fine and there's no complaints about the sound either.

Figuring out the FM presets/tuning takes a little practice, though, but I've always been an analog man there. I love dem pretty blue analog FM tuning dials.

I think that Sherwood could be a lot more competitive in the low end and higher end markets if they would market themselves better. But, they build gear for their competitors and probably make most of their money with those companies. Sherwood is one of the best kept secrets in audio, jump on it.

That sounds like a promising computer setup. Are you going to mod the Insignias? You might also consider the Primus 150 for that setup, they are small but sound pretty solid, even without modification.

The computer setup is going to be running off Itunes to the Sherwood receiver---Insignias(stock for now)---plus a old pioneer 2x6.5" powered sub, some Eurpoean model I picked up while in Germany.

I'm curious about this thread and what people think about the Sherwood and Onkyo as I'm looking for a very simple stereo receiver for my 10-year-old nephew.

I called about the shipping on that Sherwood from Provantage it's $16. I think this is the best deal I'm gonna find.

I picked mine up from Radio Shack at right around $100.

It's amazing. Imagine what a unit with those capabilites would have cost 10 years ago. I have a cheap little receiver made by Teac upstairs. I think it cost around $200. It is actually an outstanding performer.

I have developed a strong liking for Teac. The next piece of gear I will be getting will likely be the Teac AG-L800 5.1 receiver, which uses a class T amplifier (tripath). If you recall the Sonic T amp that everyone was just raving about that is the same principle technology that is used in the Teac, just bigger (even though the component is half width like the rest of the Legacy and Reference series components by Teac). I can get the Teac AG-L800 for less than $150 and have decent connectivity and a spec'd 50 watts per channel in surround mode.

I can post about the Sherwood 4105 as I picked one up for my nephew at a local CC. It's being paired with a pair of Mission m70's. For $90 all in, it's a good low-budget receiver. The Missions were almost as tough as my Mordaunts to drive when I did a comparison recently, but the Sherwood has no problem pushing them and runs surprisingly cool. I also had to up the treble a bit; I thought I'd be going the other way. The last low-budget amp I experienced was a Sony and the sound had my hair on fire and it ran so hot it almost burnt my finger. Not exactly a pleasant experience. Don't expect any fancy features from the Sherwood as it's as basic as it gets, but it does a the job.

Sony's audio products for the most part suck.
