setupd CDs for room EQ?

are there test or setupd CDs for room EQ? If I run the auto setup on my denon 3805 the settings for the left and right front in the room EQ are so wildly different that I doubt I'd ever get something like that.

Are there CDs that just offer test tones at different frequencies? I'm not musical enough to be able to do this with just a music CD, but some kind of CD that offers test tones at increasing frequency that I can channel to just one then both speakers might help.

Any other ideas?

I can't decide if I like the auto results, they sound great for some source, and rather dull for others.

Hey Oliver,
Hows it going? Your still tweaking! LOL.

You can download these tones for free. I believe these are geared towards lower frequencies, but hey it's free.

Maybe it's not your settings but the source. Some movies sound great and some don't.

I'm pretty happy with the sound right now, I'm just really thrown off by the different settings on the speakers and am curious to play with that a bit. Not only different levels which I could understand since the room is very different on each side, but also different in the frequency steps.

Just fiddling around :D

thanks for that link, looks like they'll be fun tones to have.

Hey there Oliver,

A couple that I have and use are....

Alpine's, Highway One, I have found as extremely useful. It has a series of tracks that test for imaging, timbre, SPL, bass blur (can't think of the technical term), tweeter ability, plus have a few tests at the end like phase checks, white noise, noise floor and stereo imaging. I bought this from our local Home Theatre specialist.

Test cd's by Bass Mechanic. They specialise in bass for car systems typically but have released a couple of cd's with frequency test tones that start from 5 Hz and run up to 24 KHz. Perhaps a car audio dealer may have these.

I have found these to be good, but they are limited to tuning and tweaking by ear. So if you're tone deaf, they might not be your best choice, but if you have acute audio ears, then they should help you well.

You can get test cd's which use a microphone to auto calibrate, but I am not sure where from, plus the price is higher. Sorry

Happy tuning....

Ebay might be a good place to look.... :)

thanks, that looks like what I'm looking for. I'm not a musician so just tweaking with music is a bit hard. Also I'd need to play a short sequence on repeat to tweak all speakers with the same piece of music. I'll look for that alpine one, that looks interesting.
