Hi guys
Looking for a little help here on a setup question. I seem to be having a reel blonde moment with the setup trying to make it simple to use for the wife.
Components are as follows:
Pioneer VSX 520K
Pioneer DV410 DVD
Home Built HTPC (HDMI)
Austar HD (OUr version of Foxtel)
Panasonic 42" Plasma
I know it would be simple to run everything through the amp but that is not allays our listening wish. Unfortunately the amps HDMI THRU is not automatic as it requires a manual change.
What we wish is to watch the TV and Austar with just the TV speakers and AMP off, However if we want to listen to them through the amp select DVR.
If we want to watch a DVD it is with the TV at HDMI 2 and the amp on DVD
If we want to watch something on the HTPC select BD

Will the below setup work :
Austar Box HDMI >>>>>TV HDMI 1
Austar Box Optical >>>>>AMP DVR IN

DVD HDMI >>>>>>>>>>>AMP DVD
HTPC HDMI >>>>>>>>>>> AMP BD

AMP HDMI OUT >>>>>>>> TV HDMI 2
Any and all help would be appreciated

Welcome to the forum!

That looks like a good plan for what you want to do. The one area that I'm unsure of, because I don't know which Austar HD box you have, is whether or not that Austar box requires a menu change to switch the audio output from HDMI to optical. If you can set it up to output audio over both, then I think you're in great shape.

To really make it easy for your wife (and yourself), you could consider getting a universal remote control that let's you program in macros (multiple commands that execute with a single button click). That way, she wouldn't have to switch video inputs on the TV, either.

Many thanks Adam.
With my old Pioneer amp it didn't seem to be a problem . Austar to the TV with HDMI and an optical to the amp.
Will post up the success.....
