Total Noob Here with a set up question: I just bought the Pioneer Elite VSX 23 and am having trouble getting my setup to display.

In the HDMI input 1 I have a cable running from my PS3
In the HDMI input 2 I have a cable running from my Verizon FIOS cable box
From the HDMI output 1 I have a cable running into Input 5 on my Sharp Acquios T.V.

I have no other cables hooked up at this time (other than speaker wire). The PS3 output displays fine; however, I cannot get the cable output to display, and I have no clue why the setup screen will not show. In the instruction manual it states to press the "Receiver" Button followed by the "Home Menu" but when I do so the until reads "Not Available."

I'd love to be able to use this guy but just can't even get the initial set up as of yet :( Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Very respectfully,
Nezrel

Assuming that you assigned both inputs, power down both units (cbl and receiver) remake the connections, then power up cbl, avr, tv. If still no display, swap cables to make sure that it isnt bad. Have you hooked up the cbl direct to the display before?

To access the setup menu, you can do it from the ps3 input and check your settings from there.

Here was the problem (and solution found after TONS of expletives and read/re-reading). The PS3 was a simple fix; mere case of moving it a bit to far and the cable coming undone. Once I saw that, I was relieved and new there HAD to be a solution.

I had kept foolishly trying the T.V./Sat channel on the receiver to find the cable output and was not having luck. After looking at the back, and the manual, and the T.V. over and over, I noticed the HDMI setting on the remote (which cycles through 4 HDMI channels). I cycled through that and *POOF*; there was my cable. The problem had not been completely solved as of then, however.

Now I was still having issues getting the "Home Menu" to work for initial setup; I kept pressing "Receiver" followed by "Home Menu" on the remote, but kept getting "Not Available." Then I remembered every time I turned the receiver off I kept seeing a "Zone 2" and wanted to explore that more. Sure enough, in order to run the setup feature, you must not be in "Zone 2" (or "Zone 3" for those with the 23 vs. 21 like myself). I quickly figured out how to adjust that (through Zone controls on the receiver itself) and I finally got it working!!!!!

Thanks for your interest and I hope this little issue I had can help someone else avoid it in the future.

***Of note, if you are doing this late (or are new to this) you may wonder where your sound is; the receiver starts at -80.00 so its just really quiet upon setup; go ahead and adjust that volume so you can know if your speakers are properly working.***

Thanks again for the help and concern!!!

Very respectfully,
Ro
