I feel like an idiot! Long story short I just bought a receiver so I can use headphones with my tv. I have a 42" Panasonic viera and it has no heaphone jack. The only audio out is digital audio out. So I purchased a Sherwood receiver. (RD-7502) I have set up receives in the past with no issues but for reason I cannot figure this one out. I am having problems with my directtv cable box. I have a standard cable box with no hdmi in or outs. When I use the standard yellow, white, red plugs I can not get any sound and only black and white pictures. All I want to do is hook my play station 3 and my cable box though my receiver. I would ask my boyfriend but I made a big deal about how easy it was to set up. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Given your description of the results, B&W picture + no sound, it sounds to me like you may have inadvertently connected the cable box's component video output (3 RCA plugs--normally red/green/blue) to the Sherwood's composite video input (1 RCA plug--usually yellow) and the two audio inputs (2 RCA plugs--red/white).

This could result in the observed limited video signal (only 1/3 of the cable box video output) and no audio since the audio inputs on the Sherwood are receiving the other 2/3s of the video signals instead.
