Hey guys. I am looking at setting up a surround 7.1 sound system in my basement. I am currently running a Yamaha Rx-v3800 receiver with Polk audio rti9’s as fronts, Polk es30 centre channel and polk psw505. Subwoofer. I am looking at maybe going with the in ceiling Polk rc80i or rc60i for rears and surrounds. Any recommendations on this should I go with in ceilings or should I get some bookshelves? Thanks in advance

Ceiling speakers for Dolby atmos and dts x.

Bookshelves for 5.1 and 7.1 bed layer speakers.

I just want something that gives me some good sound effects when watching movies in 7.1. My fronts in 2 channel are enough for me when playing music

Personally I would go for some bookshelf speakers. That will give a better surround presentation and allow you to add overhead speakers for Atmos/dtsx in the future. If you add rear and side surrounds now, and want to add a bed layer, the overhead speakers will be in the wrong place. Is there a main driving factor to put all the surrounds in the ceiling? FWIW, I have a pair of rc85i’s in a side room and they are pretty good.
I would also take a serious look at replacing the 505. I also have experience with that, and there are a lot of subwoofers out there that are in a completely different league.
