separate HT and Music

Question: How-to separate Home Theater and Music without unplugging speakers.
Let me explain: I have a Yamaha RX-V667 and I want to connect it all up so my Klipsch speakers will do the Home Theater thing AND my Cerwin Vega AT-10 can do the music thing with a separate amp.
My Yamaha has a Zone 2 feature I might be able to use but I wondered if there was a simpler way?
Thank you in advance.

Not witout having a totally separate, stand-alone system for each. Sort of like this.
Thanks for the reply, so you dont think zone 2 would work? I would just use it in the same room and just for music it also would have its own amp for the speakers.
If you don't mind could you explain further? Thanks.

You can use a speaker selector. One amp. Multiple speakers.

Bryston, Adcom, Parasound have speaker selectors.

Niles and Russound also have them.

The Russound also has dual amp source for hooking up 2 different AVRs or amps.

Zone two will work fine.

I just answered your question if there was a simpler way to accomplish this. I can't think of a simpler way. If yo have to plug and unplug speakers to use zone 2, you're doing something wrong.

the only downside to "zones" on receivers is thatmany do't pass digital sources. Red/white analog sources, yes, but not a digital input.

Sorry I troubled you.

I think a better A/V receiver which offers a 'A' and 'B' main output might be able to do it or a receiver like the Aventage series from Yamaha with an assignable amped output.

Older A/V receivers used to always have the 'A' and 'B' main outputs which would pretty easily allow you to do this.

Hrmmm...

Perhaps something like this will be just what you need?

Amazon.com: 2 Pair Speaker Selector Switch Switcher Splitter Box: Electronics

There are also just stand alone switches...
Amazon.com: OEM SYSTEMS IW-303 Speaker Switches (White): Electronics

Given your A/V receiver I think that this would work well for you and would be a good option. Priced right, works easily.

Thanks I got it working, some of the terminology was hard for this 50 year old newbie...I just switch back and forth between "Main" and "Zone 2" and all seems to work.
This beginner/audiophyte thanks you. (I'm glad we have this section!)
OK, good - have fun.

Sorry your question was unclear and/or your receiver doesn't have a manual.
You shouldn't post in the "Beginner and Audiophytes" section, you clearly are so smart it is beneath you. Maybe you could start your own forum?
You could call it "Stereo's for Dickheads"
Geez, I was polite and you've been rude.

Funny, I help quite a few newbies.

Most of them know how to phrase a question to say what they mean or at least know when they don't know what they are saying and man up to it.

You asked a question: "My Yamaha has a Zone 2 feature I might be able to use but I wondered if there was a simpler way?"

You imply that you read up on zone two and wanted a simpler method.

I say not unless you go with two separate systems.

You then rejoinder with "Thanks for the reply, so you don't think zone 2 would work?" and other stuff that didn't seem to logically follow.

WTF??? Where did I say that? Did you even read what you asked in your first post??? I think not!!!

But, still trying to understand your convoluted writing , I offer the following:

"I just answered your question if there was a simpler way to accomplish this. I can't think of a simpler way. If you have to plug and unplug speakers to use zone 2, you're doing something wrong.

Now, how much nicer could I be? I can't read minds.

...an then you get all snippy. Look, if your writing skills are so poor that you can't put your thoughts into words, that's your problem, not mine. Perhaps you should have your kids write your questions for you, assuming you can clearly verbalize your thoughts to them.

But, don't worry. You won't have to worry about me bothering you again.

But, if they do implement a forum named "Stereo's for Dickheads", we'll move your thread in there to make sure you'll be the first one.
