I would spend it very differently too, but you have to pick your battles. At least we prevented the OP from buying overpriced cable jewelry.

Gotta sign up apparently to look at the image in post 27. Is it a pic of the innards of the Transparent cable's box? Like the globby mess inside an MIT cable box attached here? That Octadyndude sounds like a real winner....and good ol' Northstar, too, oh boy.

Yes, just as pathetic. What's even more interesting is that some many of the forum members are 'surprised' at the findings !

My favorite lately is the cable discussions at Audiophiles - North America group on FB. One of the moderators is this wacky blogger/reviewer who runs The Inner Ear, Ernie Fisher. He likes wacky cables, the more expensive the better. Also vibration control woo. Guess how he steers things....or banishes people who try to talk sense about wire...

I would think that is hot melt glue so it won't rattle? Interesting that they left the cable jacket in there on the right side.

The box is either an EQ network and should be called an EQ network with attached cable, or a Zoble network. A Zoble network can reduce ringing or even oscillation when an amplifier and speaker are not happy working together.

Or, what the other company patented, an RF filter.

I did not see the USB cables on the BJC site, thanks! Those will do me good! The only cable that BJC does not have that I might need is a USB 3.0 to mini but in this case I will just use the one supplied with the device (an external drive).

To those who beg to differ with my purchasing choices for a $6k system, I am always open to hearing alternative points of view (which does not mean I am going to heed the advice of course). Breaking it down, I am spending 1k on the amp, 1k on the DAC and 3.5k on the speakers. Plus $500 tax. And then if I can get the OPPO 205 that could add another 2k at the going price.

$1k on the DAC? Does it hopefully have an amp, EQ, pre/sub outs
and bass management attached to it too?

The first question I would ask is what do you want from your system? I think you are spending way too much on Amp / DAC combo.

Look at the Topping D50 for DAC duties. Here is a very thorough review and measurements. Just as good as it gets and it's $250.

Crown XLS 1002 at $299

Feed it with a computer.

Use the $5450 on speakers.

When it comes to speaker wire, twisted (BJC) is always better than straight parallel wire. Twisted wire rejects magnetic fields emitted by AC cords from all the electronics.
And for anyone liking diy, building twisted speaker cable is both cheap and easy. Only needing a variable speed, reversing drill motor.
