Hmm. The LCDs might have had the FI (frame interpolation) as on, maybe even on maximum setting.
If I set my bluray player to output at 1080/60, the judder on rolling credits is easily discernible. Once at 24p, quite smooth to me. (My PJ does not apply 3:2 to film sources).
As for the news, that would be 1080/60, and so I don't know what to say. I've never seen a plasma with FI, but in all honesty, they don't need it.
LCDs do pretty horribly with "motion resolution" compared to plasma, except when FI is engaged, then it gets pretty close to your average plasma, if still only half the motion rez of the top of the line stuff, such as Pio, maybe even the current hi-end Panas.
The problem with FI is that it's generally thought to be inappropriate for film. It is more likely to be desired with video games, sports, etc. Personally, I've never seen FI that I've liked, but I'm sure there are better implementations that I have to see.
