SCOTUS ruling on Tariffs

So there’s potentially $200 billion in refunds owed, but to who? The refunds will go to importers, but they already passed those costs along to consumers. This is going to be free money for the porters with a few small exceptions. Every day people just paid to make large corporations wealthy at their own expense due to government policies. Congratulations.

It was pretty obvious right from the start that it was the US consumer who was going to be paying the cost of the tariffs. Despite what those in charge claimed. This is just extra gravy on top.

I hope there’s some sort of negotiated repayment like tax credits over years and not simply huge cash settlements. Kavanaugh’s dissent states Trump can simply apply different statutes and continue the tariffs but the roughly $200 Billion will eventually get refunded. If we don’t see immediate reduction in consumer pricing I’ll be pissed… I think I’m gonna be pissed

SCOTUS is partly at fault for allowing the tax to continue while they were deliberating.
At least the amount may have been easier to swallow?

It’s a terrible ruling as they Vacated and Remanded most of it sending it back to circuit courts. It’ll be litigated there and the International Trade court hence Kavanaugh’s statement on it being messy. End of the day consumers won’t see relief and corporations get a windfall of free money. 07 bailout again but to a different sector of the economy.

Of course, but Trump is "pig dribble" stupid and demented to boot. He never reads a relevant document or history. He does not know the disastrous history of tariffs.

In most cases, tariffs were passed on to consumers. However, some organizations chose to absorb them. Talk about messy.

I don't think there is any way to practically and fairly unscramble that egg. Compensating importers would just be a windfall for them, leaving consumers footing the bill.

The "they" would have to go through books, a lot, an awful lot to get to the bottom who paid what to whom.

And now, how to enforce the exact laws of the new tariffs as it is not a slam dunk as before. You have to meet certain requirements of the laws on the books.

I actually paid a tariff to DHL when they billed me just a few weeks ago. I wonder if I can dispute the transaction on the grounds it was illegal.

DHL have probably already paid the bonding agent, so I doubt it. This whole regime is now illegal and clearly unconstitutional. So we have a Constitutional crisis I believe. We will find out Tuesday I think. If the Democrats and the supreme courts members who voted against Trump's tariffs don't show up, then I think we can say this Constitution has likely run its course.

Then we are either able to recognize it as such and call another Constitutional conference, or it then could become a civil war. I don't think American's as a whole realize how serious this crisis now is.

If you can send them a notice for a refund, free to do so, send them one and demand the refund. All they can do is say good luck collecting. Small claims court.

DHL can go after, and should, to whom they paid the tax.
Do you really want to call for that constitutional congress with these idiots in charge? Would there be enough to call for one?
