Satellite Speaker Recomendations

Ok, so I just got my system all set up and enjoying having a conversation with my brother about what his plans for his setup is. He tells me he wants to get set of BOSE Acoustimass 6 or 10. I gotta save him.

So, what do you guys recommend in terms of a satellite speaker set?

I suggested the Definitive Technology Pro-Cinema 100 series which I listened to several months back at a dealer and was extremely impressed with the way they sounded for being a small system. Price point isnt bad either. Of course I am biased to Def Tech.

What other satellite systems are out there to consider?

Definitive Technology Pro-Cinema 100 sounds like a good choice, Mirage, Anthony Gallo, Morel and, KEF all have something that your brother could like (and that sound really good too!).

I had the def.tech. procinema 100's w/c2 center and 200tl sub for 4 yrs before i got my current setup. The def.tech. system was great for ht as well as music.I also currently have the energy take5 setup in a small room in my room and they are good also, but not nearly as good as the def.tech's.The def.tech.'s in my opinion blow them away.

Real speakers

Bama,
Order your brother some "real" bookshelf speakers like the Onix X-LS or Aperion for comparision to the Bose. Both are risk free so you are out nothing if you return them. The real wood veneer from both of these manufacturers increases the WAF rating.

If bookshelf speakers are not an option, I would consider on-wall or in-wall speakers over the satelite type. You could get a nice set of the Axiom on-wall speakers and a good sub for much less than the Bose system.

Everyone in here has given great advice and I can't find fault with what any of our AV wizards have recommended. Picking best of breed bookshelves would of course be best, but let me take the less popular path. Beacuse your brother is looking at Bose it sounds to me like he is looking for something prepackaged and compact. Something both easy to pick up in one shot, and with the warm and fuzzy feeling one gets with buying a matched set.

Although I've never heard either set I have a lot of faith in Hsu and SVS. I'm going to recommend you have him consider AVRat's advice for an ultra compact system. However (based on specs) if he has the room, I think that SVS' prepackaged SBS-01 5.1 Home-Theater Speaker System with the PB10-NSD or better yet the optional upgrade to the PB12-NSD would be a much better choice. The option of an all white SVS system might also help with the WAF.

I'd also like to throw in this set: MS300 $449, then add your choice of sub from the likes of SVS or HSU.

I have heard the SVS SBS-01 5.1 package and it is a solid set as well.
