I have hooked up my Sanyo RD-5008 cassette deck to my Sanyo DCX 1970K receiver. All of the controls are functional, FF, rewind, etc. When I press play the reels turn, but nothing lights up except vefy briefly when I press stop. No sound comes out of my speakers, and I have tested the receiver and speakers with other inputs and it works. Wondering if I have it all hooked up in the back properly? Help

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

I'll assume you have your speaker wires connected correctly, and you can get sound with the Tuner, or another input.

Let's start with when you put in a Cassette with music on it do the meters light up during play like on this YouTube?
Sanyo DCX-1970K Playing

If so you may have reversed the connections on the back that go to the Sanyo DCX 1970K receiver, or possibly need to press Tape Monitor button on the Front Panel of the Receiver (bottom right in the photo below), and slowly turn up the volume from zero.

The deck powering is separate from the powering of the electronics. Since it is nothing light except when you press stop, I suspect a failure of power to the electronics. I suspect a failure of a micro switch activated by the deck controls.

No, it doesn't light up like that. Tape monitor is hit on the receiver, too...

I have no idea. I have no circuits or the service manual. Tape machine service is complex and exacting. More then likely it needs a no longer available part. That is not a classy unit and not worth much effort. It is probably a bin job.

I'm with TLS on this one. The unit is probably in need of professional repair and replacement parts may not be easily available for such an old machine.

Sorry about that. ;)
