i'm looking for help with my sansui au-717. the volume knob is VERY loose but the knob will not come off even with the set screw out and the only way i get sound out of it is if i jiggle the knob. can anyone tell me where i can get this fixed? i live in central virginia. thanks.

i got this with a tu-717 tuner from the original owner and he said the tuner only has about 10hrs use. both have rack handles, manuals, schematics and a 4 page color catalog on the 2 units. they are both in great shape(except the issue with the volume knob).

I cant remember if there is only one or two set screws on that know but it is very tricky to unscrew as the allen head on the set screw is very small. The only way to fix it is to undo it and tighten it back down. You may be able to get at it better by removing the faceplate. Take off the cover and there are two or three screws on the top and the bottom of the faceplate and it will pull right off. You can also clean around all the knobs where dust gathers too and is hard to get at ;) Im not sure why the knob will not come off if you have taken the set screw completely out. You may need a new potentiometer. There is a guy with the screen name of "Echowars" over at www.audiokarma.org. You'll want to send him a private message or email about a repair if that is the case.

I remeber Sansusi .. long time ago

Do you have any stereo type repair shops around you ? Any should be able to fix the Sansusi at a fairly low cost. Sansusi is a great vintage amp or receiver. I considered one when I bought my first Marantz.

Good luck ;)

well i had to drill the shaft to get the knob off. now i need to find a volume control unit (and a knob) for this. it's really a shame because the amp really worked great before the control unit locked up. if i can't find one or atleast a comparable one that will work i think i'm going to sell the 2 units together.
