The biggest problem with the dock situation is the only one I can find is on Amazon right now and Griffin Technologies doesn't list it on their website.

I haven't done a ton of searching other places at this point. The headphone amp is going to be built just so I can say, "Hey! I built this and it works!" :D

You don't need a headphone amp, you need a voltage amplifier, designed to send 1 Volt in to 10K ohms. It is the circuit in the link I sent you, you need to build. It is voltage gain you need plus impedance matching. The circuit I sent you will do just that.

Got it. I'm getting the two confused.

My personal opinion is to just get a micro-mixer like the Behringer XENYX 502 for around $49.95.
Major music stores have them, or you can find them online. No need to build anything and not only does it offer a headphone out to use, it also has a record out. PLUS, being a school with a tight budget, this mixer can be used for many different purposes. Easy to set up and use and should solve your pre amp situation nicely. I DJ from my laptop nowadays and I use a mixer just like this one for both my computer and MP3 player.

Just my opinion though, since all the suggestions here are also fine solutions as well.

Rock on, I'm out.

I think Pat wanted the challenge of building something himself. Even if he fails he will have leaned a lot.

The Behringer mixer will be fine as long as it has enough gain with decent signal to noise. That Fuze gadget seems very low voltage and all the inputs are line in, which his Fuze does not have.

Right on the ball!

Well, no, not really. My parents have given me their old laptop and I am now running everything off of it instead of the Fuze. The voltage amplifier sounds very intriguing and I may still do that in the near future. For now, I've got my problems taken care of.

Thank you all for the guidance on the voltage amp (and headphone amp which I may build, too).
