Hello Buckeyefan,

Thanks for the link. I was looking on that site and I see a Denon-1815 on there for a really good price. I'm looking to upgrade to a Progressive-scan DVD player and get rid of my old CD player in the process. Is this a good unit to buy? I don't need the absolute best, but I would like to really take advantage of the picture on my Mitsubishi HDTV.

What do you think?

I bought one about 2 weeks ago for about the same price. Just know though this unit has gotten lousy reviews on it, but I figured for the price what the heck!

Edit: the samsung that is

I'm a big fan of Denon equipment, so that seems to be a nice buy if you need a multi disc player. If the price stays competitive to the 1815, I'd rather see you get this for picture quality/sound/technology. (I've not compared the two side by side, but the 1910 has received glowing reviews).

I also like the Panasonic models for picture quality (their top end models). They have some of the best reliability and also get very high reviews, especially at their price points.

if you act quick, you can land this for a very good price. Just check the seller 1st.

Thanks again for the info. Panasonic was one of the companies that I had kind of sworn off. I had a Panasonic TV that took a crap on me after a few years. And I have a Panasonic VCR that wasn't so great either. I definitely stay away from Panasonic TV's. I don't know about their DVD players. The other company that I ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT buy, no matter what, is Sony. I have had MANY Sony products break on me, (Mobile ES amp, Receiver, Walkmans). I will NEVER buy Sony again!!!

But I'll give the Panasonic a shot.

Also, why are there such HUGE price differences between makers? I see some Denon's in the 4-figure range. That's crazy for a DVD player in my opinion. I realize that you get what you pay for in regards to build quality, but is there really that much of a performance difference?

I just won the auction on that Panasonic S77S DVD player. The damn thing shot up to $175 though!! I HATE how people wait til the last second to bid on something. You think you're getting a deal, and then you end up paying regular price. I probably should have let it go. Oh well. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I see you won it Darien. Yeah, I was thinking of adding a second player. But mine is fine. So I did not want to go any higher than 85.00
Yeah. I probably should have let it go. But damn it, I get so caught up in those damn online auctions!!! It's like you can't stand to lose or something. "Oh yeah? You're not gonna outbid me!!!" I'm such a shmuck. :(
