Curious about the presence of the minidsp....is it still running per your last programming or you did reprogram it for the current room?

It looks like it's filtered below 80 hz to me. Hard to imagine doing it by accident and not know it's there tho...

*PS, Actually maybe not so hard to imagine if it's meant to be a notch but was implemented as a shelf.

An update after hours of troubleshooting (reinstalling REW, the MiniDSP plugin, drivers, firmware etc.). The issue seems to be the HDMI sound output on my Dell XPS 7590 laptop. When I run the same measurements on an older Dell Latitue E7440 from work, the bass is back (see the green line in the image below, compared to the red line which is the previous measurement on the XPS 7590.).

Now, I don't know why this is happening. I've gone through the HDMI settings, disabled all enhancements etc., but the issue remains. Any ideas?

A sidenote: I noticed that the overall SPL of the bass output is very different depending on whether I choose the Left, Right or Left + Right channel as output in REW, even though the mains are disconnected. Why is that, and does it matter which one I choose?

If I had to guess, I’d say it’s different because what the subwoofer is getting is redirected bass below the xo. When you sweep with L+R, you’re getting redirected bass from both speakers. Even though they’re physically disconnected, the processing remains the same. Just a hunch.

I think William is correct. The LFE output on the AVR combines the L and R channels, so I could understand L+R being greater than just L or R.

The HDMI issue is very strange. Did you by any chance try the YouTube videos that are linked to in the Subwoofer Candy thread and compare those on the two laptops? Judging by your graphs, the difference should be easily audible. If you still notice the difference with music, then it looks like the laptop is the culprit, but if the music is the same then it is likely REW on the XPS. Most audio hardware is 20Hz to 20kHz so it seems odd that the XPS would act that way. If you have a good set of earbuds or headphones, I would also listen to those music tracks through the audio jacks on the laptops and see how they compare. That could help narrow down where the issue is.

Seriously, I have no life.
Hi,

Early 2019 I bought two "XTZ Sub 10.17 Edge" subwoofers, connected them to my Denon X2300W, measured the in-room response in REW using a UMIK-1 and was very happy with the results. I got plenty of output. 70-85 dB from 16-200 Hz when set to output 75 dB using pink noise in REW, see image below.View attachment 55115

Here I am, three years later in a new house, same subwoofers, new AVR (Denon X4500H) and a miniDSP 2x4HD in between them. Now, I just measured the in-room response for the first time, and the low-end bass is completely gone (see image below).

Yes, the new room is bigger, and it has some openings, so I expect the output to be lower. But this? So I measured the subwoofers near field, and I got the same results: the low-end is completely gone, just like in the graph above. I've checked the miniDSP plugin and all filters etc. are bypassed. The crossover in the AVR is jacked up to 250 Hz, Audyssey is turned off. I've made sure that each of the subs are outputting 75 dB at the MLP when playing pink noise in REW. So what the heck is going on? Is there a setting I've missed? Is there something wrong in the signal path?

This is my measurement setup: laptop with UMIK-1 (USB) & REW --> AVR via HDMI (AUX 1 on the front) --> sub out 1 --> miniDSP 2x4HD ---> subs

Please help.
I haven't used a MiniDSP- Does it have a phase setting for each output? If so, I would check that to make sure they're not set to opposite polarity. Did you check the phase settings on the subs? If those controls are very different, the bass from one will cancel the bass from the other. Try setting them at 0° and see if the low end returns. Also, make sure the subs are actually turning on- not noticing that the power or trigger switch is in the wrong position isn't as difficult as it would seem.

I'm pleased to report that I found the issue and solved it.

I had followed the "Getting Started with REW - A Step-by-Step Guide" by Jerry Austin (https://www.avnirvana.com/resources/getting-started-with-rew-a-step-by-step-guide.19/) which is commonly referred to. The guide tells you to check the “Disable all enhancements” box on the HDMI connection in Windows. However, the same setting exists for the microphone connection as well, which is not mentioned in the REW guide, and that box was not checked by default. As soon as I disabled all enhancements for the UMIK-1 in Windows, the measurements were accurate again! So much headache for such a silly thing, but hopefully this mistake can help others correct their REW measurements as well.
