Okay Joe, I set DSD output mode to Off – No Sound
Selected Digital Audio Output to output to PCM and I have sound!

There is a separate menu for Music Settings that includes SACD playback Layer. When I set it to SACD again no sound. When it is set to CD there is sound.

Nothing gives me multi speaker output. (BTW I really like the warmth of the remastered Genesis from Analogue Productions. Even on the ARC only it sounds great.

1) Would a LightSpeed EX100-EARC-KIT be helpful in changing that? In terms of multi speaker functionality?

2) Also, no audio settings change anything as regards my X800M2 Total silence from my SACDs. But it's worth the $300 the X700 if it now plats all my physical media.

Further thoughts?

And thanks in advance
If you want better sound than a sound bar, you should look at active speakers with an HDMI input. They will give you much better sound than a sound bar, at reasonable cost. You can add a sub also. No need for a receiver. The TV will act as a pre pro, and the speaker as speaker and amp. This is the future which is emerging now.

Here is an affordable active speaker.

Your TV can connect to these directly. Putting Atmos in a single box is silly and fraudulent. Good two channel will beat any Atmos Soundbar. If you add a sub you will have a really nice system.

Go into the settings of your Sony X700K from the home page. Curser down to "Audio Settings". Curser down to "DSD Output Mode". Press the enter (middle of 4 way switch on remote). Curser down to "Off". Hit enter again. Then hit return to get back to the home page.
This will output all SACD signals as PCM. This is the first place to start.

I'll say it once again. Sony and Philips engineers pioneered the development of both the CD and SACD. To say they actually had "a very stupid understanding of decoding PCM" proves you're an idiot. How in the world can the guys who invented PCM have no understanding of it?
Well they just played along with audiophools. There is no evidence and good reasons to show that DSD is NOT superior to PCM.

In addition DSD editing and production facilities bit the dust early in the game. They were a nightmare to work with. So for years DSD masters have been converted to PCM for production and mixing work. The final product is then converted back to DSD. Make sense? No of course not, which is why DSD is dying.

FWIW the only value I see in SACD is multich content and only started buying SACD chasing that. I already had a few Sony bluray players that could do it as well as avrs, and dove in quite late, and a lot of what I want now commands too high a price on the used market. Even though I can play the dsd direct to my avrs, that's a pure direct mode, I often want to apply dsp so often use lpcm.

You learn something every day. Only some Sony TVs and some Phillips support DSD. As far as I can tell none of the others do.
Still doubt the tv is supporting dsd....he's got an LG

Yes! HDMI, of course. :).

I will try that configuration of setting with the X800 later today, (much later cos' life). It would be nice to return the new X700 and get my $$$ back.

I want to thank both you andJoe foreign helpful and kind. I won't get into all the drama of why this took me over a 2 years to sort out but we know what John Lennon said about life!

BTW I was looking at that LightSpeed product. because I did some research about a year ago and I remembered reading about a piece of outboard gear for around $300 that would give you as close to 5.1 with what I have. I can see this product is not that but if either of you have a clue as to what I'm talking about...

I don't have any SACD but I vaguely remember someone posting that there is not one setting on the Sony that will play all formats automatically. I think you have to manually change the settings when playing SACD and then change it back again, which would be kind of annoying. Could be wrong. :D

If the op can get surround sound with movies, then I would forgo the SACDs and try blue-rays instead. Maybe try one of the recent Pink Floyd ATMOS remixes?

I have never seen a TV capable of DSD. PCM *might* work, but it will almost certainly be stereo only, no multi-channel.

This is what I was thinking after my last post, wonder if multich pcm is too much bandwidth?

The Sony manuals aren't all that helpful. The separate music settings hopefully make a difference but thinking it's more bandwidth.

Haven't heard about that LightSpeed before, seems mostly about extending your current eARC/ARC capabilities and wouldn't think that would help, assuming your tv has eARC and it being so close since you're using a soundbar (I did look at your soundbar and it has eARC, plus you can play the lossless codecs on a bluray). I do note it only mentions two ch pcm, and am not sure but that may be a limit of eARC.

Yes, and LGs don't support DSD, but I would never use a TV to decode anything.

Yes, I prefer an avr over the tv as a "pre-pro", but I am pleasantly surprised how well eARC works in my new LG C5 with all the codecs. Using it more than I thought I would.

That is not surprising as I don't think there are any decoders that are absolutely dreadful. If you are using a receiver or AVP with eARC, then that is where the decoding takes place anyway.

Then again this thread wasn't particularly about decoding the dsd in any case, merely the ability to pass it along. Sort of.
