All optical disc formats, including SACD, are digital on the disc. Your DVD player should be passing the signal via 6 analog cables to your receiver. Nothing wrong with either piece of your equipment.

The 2805 doesn't accept hires formats digitally, AFAIK, so for you, DVD-A and SACD are analog only.

The SACD is still digital though. It's just that he can only access the music through analog means.

The signals of all formats are digital, until they pass through the D/A converters, either in the player itself or in the case of firewire or HDMI, or other digital inputs where the signals are converted to analog in the D/A converters in the receiver. As far as DVD Audio and SACD they are either converted in the player, and transmitted via the 6 channel ouput as analog, or digitally via the firewire connection if one is present. HDMI passes all formats as well in it's latest revision.
