SACD Player Frustration...no specs

Looking for a decent low cost SACD player is almost impossible these days. The manufacturers do not give enough information. Most say that they will "play" SACD. This is a far cry from "true DSD processing for SACD". I have been doing searches for service manuals to find schematics and look for myself. I do own an older DV-563a that does actually have true DSD processing (and an easy way to intercept the DSD stream for homebrew D/A).

I wish they would provide the Chip information (manufacturer and model) for those of us who care.
I can see a manufacturers unwillingness to publish these specs if they don't have true DSD processing, but it is frustrating!

The Usual

Yes manufacturers these days are not forthcoming with what you really need to know as a rule!
Usually though, the DSD processing is sent to the analog outputs only, as receivers and pre amps can not usually decode DSP. It is not a PCM system, and so no digital DSP stream appears on the optical or SPDIF outputs. I can't think of a domestic product that would be able to send uncoded DSP to an outboard DAC. You have to use the multi analog inputs of the receiver or pre amp to play SACD. These inputs are usually pass through inputs.
My hat is well and truly off to you though, if you know how to build a DSP decoder!

You mention "Usually though, the DSD processing is sent to the analog outputs only". Well, they usually don't even do that. The audio from SACD is output to there, but it wasn't necessarily decoded properly. Most of them convert DSD to PCM, then run that into a cheap d/a, then to the analog outputs.

I have been looking at schematics...frightening :)

These modern engineers, corporations and marketers are absolutely shameless aren't they?

I'm from the good old days when the schematics came with the units. Where did you get the schematics? I will have to check out my Marantz Universal disc player.

By the way please continue to stay on this site. We need a lot more guys like you.
