Rythmik 12 set up help

Does anyone know how I would set this up to achieve less bump/thump from bass drums and more low end boom? I think that is how I would describe it. I used the set up guide from Rythmik under AVR since my Emotiva USP-1 has sub controls. My ML Grotto was set at 80hz and 180 phase.. Volume was at 75%. I was getting a nice LOW end with less short bass impact. For instance. With the sub off and playing just the Sierra 2's you wouldn't have much low end. Then cutting the sub on you would fill the room with deep lows instead of just bass drum attack with the ML Grotto... This is what I seek with the Ryhmik.
Sorry.. I am not educated much on subs.
You could also say I am looking at less attack and more low end resonating extension.

Your best bet is to call Rythmik and ask for Brian.

His amps are a bit on the complex side.

I would also play with placement of the sub. If its in a corner, try pulling it out of the corner to see if that helps. My Rythmik is at sitting at a totally different location than where my PSB Subsonic 5 used to sit.

Thanks for the info.. Doesn't putting them in a corner make them a little more boomy? My is in a corner right now. The ML Grotto sounded very good here..

I think you have some misconceptions. First of all the lowest frequency of a drum kit is 50 Hz. So there are no deep lows to be reproduced. Drums do not boom, bad speakers do.

I have heard a lot of ML speakers, and the ones with cone bass drivers have all been glaringly bad in the lower end. It seems to me no one at ML has ever understood correct bass alignments.

So my guess is your reference axis is off and your Rhythmics are correct. There are sealed low Q subs. All ML speakers I have ever heard except the full electrostatics have the Q of the bass alignment far too high.

So if it is boom you want go back to your MLs, but it is not correct.

The Martin Logan item was the Grotto sub only. I am using Ascend Acoustics Sierra 2 front speakers. When I removed the Grotto from the set up and added the Rythmik the lower/deeper sounds seem to be gone... Maybe it's just my placement. I use drums as a reference since I play them. Tight heads can have a lot of attack and less sustain. Very punchy... That's what the Rythmik sounds like. I am trying to get a smoother sound from it.

As I told you there are no deep sounds on a drum kit! What you were hearing before was a boat load of ripple in the 50 to 100 Hz range from a sloppy high Qts driver.

So with this rig you will no get that sloppy (smooth sound) from your current set up.

I think you need to change your point of reference.

Play with location....the corner maybe a bad location as previously mentioned. Also Rythmic is noted for great customer service in helping set up the sub.....call them and use their expertise.

If you really want what you had before, open up the equalizer in your receiver and raise the 60 Hz fader until you get what you want. You might have to raise the 120 Hz fader a little also.

I thought my PSB Subsonic 5 was a great little sub but when I heard my Rythmik come into play, the difference was astounding. The first thing I noticed was how much bass changed in the low frequency effects. I heard pitch changes in many a movie that the PSB did not replicate. Instead of low rumble and slam, I heard pitch changes and felt for the very first time deep bass. TLS is on to something with his first reply to this thread. Because the GROTTO cannot go as deep as the F12, I suspect what you heard from it was its attempt to reach the bottom depths bit failing providing you with nothing more than boom.

I also suspect that you will need to play with placement like I mentioned in my previous post. My LV12-R sits in a totally different location than where my PSB used to sit. I hope this helps/
