rxv2500 yamaha - problem with sound quality

I have a 2500 Yamaha hooked up to my directivo (non hd) vi optical. On certian channels I get 5.1 and everything sounds great. On the channels that I don't I see PCM show up and the sound that comes out of my front speakers has a gargled quality to it. Is this just a settings/wiring issue? Is outputing everything via the optic cable the correct way to have this?

Thanks,

Travis

Check your output settings on the tiVo, through the menu you can access two types of output settings -PCM or Dolby Digital 5.1, I'm not sure about the gargled or distorted sound:confused: but, the default output is going to be PCM on any show w/ out DD 5.1 . The yammi has an excellent DAConverter
IMO, the sound from pcm should sound quite nice also, but it will be primarily in 2ch format.

Travs,
That's because only a handful of channels broadcast in 5.1.
