RX663 Auto Setup Issues

Recently purchased the Yamaha RX-663 and ran the auto-setup. I only get sound out of my left satelite speaker.

I'm wondering if the problem is my speaker setup. I have a JVC speaker set that includes 2 non-powered subwoofers (left and right). Everyone I talk to says that is strange because subs are omni-directional and should not need a left right. I bought it from a friend so I'm not sure of the whole history. The setup includes a switch box which allows me to combine the subs and the front satellite speakers into a single left-right connection to my AVR. In other words, the subs are not connected to the sub input on the AVR, but piggy back the satellite connection. This is how I had it set up with my old Harmon Kardon AVR and it worked fine. I think the auto setup is confused by my setup.

Should I find a way to separate the subs from the satellites? Do I need to buy a powered sub? Do I need to try manual calibration? Thanks.

The receiver’s subwoofer input is really a low level subwoofer output signal used to run powered subwoofers via a RCA cord hookup. If your subwoofers are powered you can buy a RCA “Y” splitter and run the two of them. You would then select subwoofer connected in your setup menu. If your subwoofers are not self amplified and don’t have subwoofer input RCA jacks, then they are passive and get their power from the speaker wires connected to them. They may even have a crossover to connect the mid and upper frequencies output to your regular speakers. If this is the case your receiver thinks your subwoofers are a normal speaker. Therefore you would set the setup menu to no subwoofer. I don’t know why you have switchbox connections because I don’t see why you would want to switch anything on or off once it is properly set up. I hope this helps and if it doesn’t post more information

Yes, that's exactly my situation. I guess I used the wrong term. It is not a switchbox but rather a junction box that receives the wires from the subs and the satellites with a single set of left-right wires connected to the AVR's front speaker inputs. I'll try running the setup again, this time with no subwoofer. Thanks for the help.
