Hi,

I've been shopping around for a while to get the Pioneer VSX-816. However, I can't find it "in stock" at a good price. Best Buy in Canada don't sell it anymore.

I can get the Yamaha 659 for 50$ more.

The features are pretty similar for these 2 receivers, so I was wondering if it's worth it to get the Yamaha now or should I just wait for the Pioneer to become available...

Thanks.

Where are you getting your prices from? Bestbuy in Toronto has the the Yamaha 5960 (same model as the 659) for $599 and 2001AudioVideo has it for $599 too whereas they carry the Pioneer 816 for $299.

Are you sure you have the right models listed? I am myself having a mental war between the Pioneer 1016 and Yamaha 659 and will be picking one up shortly. :)

Please clarify.

David.

what is your total budget. It would seem like your undecided on speakers and receiver. In any H/T set up the speakers are the most important factor. The above mentioned avr's are decent but the cost of the yamaha is nearly double. How you utilize your components and the power requirements of the chosen speakers, should guide your decision in which receiver you need.

I finally bought the Athena Micra 6 today ;)

As for the person who was asking about the price, I was talking about internet price so you have to factor in shipping and duties...

Cool

I guess you heard back from audioadvisor or picked them up somewhere else. I know the pioneer vsx 816 will be all you need !! The yamaha rxv659 or the pioneer vsx1016 would be nice but overkill price wise.

For the speaker system provided (satelites are not taxing, and can't reach ear bleeding levels so lots of amplifier power isn't necessary) just get the 816 and enjoy. It has a good amount of features and has received good reviews.
