RX-V657 vs. Onkyo TX-SR503/603x

Title says it all. After much research I am down to these 3 budget receivers. I know the SR503 is a little "below class" from the 603x/v657 but very cheap (less than $300). I am looking for people's real world thoughts, experiences, etc., esp if anyone went from a SR503 to the 603 or the yammie...people who have actually heard and compared. Yes, I have searched and I have seen the glowing review of the RXV657 by AV Guide monthly. I'll be driving Axiom 22ti speakers and will use it about 70% music (CD and SACD) and 30% movies/Direct TV. thanks

I switched from Onkyo to Yamaha. I did step-up in power and features, but I prefer Yamaha by far.

If price is a concern, look for the Yamaha HTR-5860. It is nearly identical to the RX-V657 receiver with a different faceplate and lacks the zone 2 output. I have one and would recommend it. You should be able to find it for $300-350 from an authorized dealer.

Your Axiom's desirve a decent mid-fi reaceiver. You should also consider a refurbished RX-V2500 or 1500 for $4-500 if it is in your budget.

I don't want to buy refurbished, would prefer new. Anyone else with comments? Zumbo, which onkyo did you upgrade from? Which Yammie did you upgrade to?
