RX-V2600 HDMI to HDMI problem

An LG progressive scan DVD will not display through an HDMI connection to a Sony 3LCD rear projection 50 in monitor. The monitor is connected via HDMI. The system works fine with a CompVid connection and optical fiber audio.
The HDMI resolution configuration choices are "grayed out" from the Yamaha. The I/O connection choices are correct, as well as the HDMI choices.
When I do get a signal throught the system from the dvd via HDMI, the color is way off, sometimes the connection just flickers and a thumping sound is heard. The LG DVD worked fine via HDMI when connected directly to the Sony HDMI input. I have also tried new HDMI cables.
??????????

Are you using a 8300HD cable box?

Just a guess, but I bet you are using a 8300HD cable box?

If so, this is an ongoing issue with the 8300HD boxes because apparently they don't support HDMI repeaters which is what your 2600 is acting as. I have the same problem with my Elite 72TXV. Others have reported this with the Denon HDMI receivers as well. I know this stinks but you will have to go from your cable box to your 2600 by Component Video and Digital Audio cables and then use HDMI out of your receiver to your LG. Supposedly the software companies have a fix but it is up to your cable company as to when they will roll it out to your cable box.

Hope this helps.

Motorola Cable Box

The Motorola hd digital cable box from ComCast is connected via comp vid and optical to the 2600. It works fine. The problem is with the LG DVD to the 2600 via hdmi.

...oops

I thought you were talking about an LG tv in your first post. I just learned to read last week. The only thing that I can think of is changing the order in which you power up the DVD, receiver, and the TV. Maybe that might fix the HDMI handshake problem.

Hey, no sweat. I appreciate your help.
The units have been started in enough random orders by now to not be an issue. My hunch is "something" is set in the receiver that grays out the HDMI choices. That "something" may be the problem.
The DVD component video connection with optical audio is working fine, but I bought this receiver for HDMI switching.

The pigs are NOT flying yet!

Maybe next year!!!!

HDMI is not ready yet. Sorry guys. It's a waste to buy ANY component but a 1080i TV with HDMI 1.1. If your looking for 1080p look for something other than HDMI 1.1. None of it will work right until the cable boxes HD/BD DVD and recievers are talking the same language. HDMI 1.3 or nothing unless you upgrade yearly or don't mind being stuck with the old audio formats.

I am thinking a HTPC with a DVI video card and 5.1 analog output to a five channel amp and powered sub. This will be most compatible and cheapest to upgrade early (although most technically difficult) for the next 1-2 years. With an ATSC tuner card and/or DVB-S card it could be tivo like with dishnetwork HD/SD(with correct software:) PM if your curious) and OTA HD. Software can decode DVD-A and potential future surround formats(sorry no SACD) and H.264 HD, WMVHD and other HD formats with DRM, Mpeg2, Mpeg4 whatever. It could be a top notch DVD player at the moment and upgraded to HD/BD DVD when drives and content become available.
