The 2600 review preview

See the Yam 2500 review and add this line to the bottom.

"...the 2600 adds a cantankerous, already obsolete, HDMI switching without audio support for a few hundred dollar premium to its predecesor..."

Hmmm, that would be incorrect. The 2600 is only missing SACD from the HDMI. It decodes everything else via HDMI. That is one of the reasons I bought one. So far, not a single issue with the HDMI switching and audio with it. It also has superior DACS and amplifier stage than the 2500

Actually it won't pass 1080p via HDMI so looks like you will be upgrading to the 2700 once that format takes :D

it seems pretty tough for Yamaha to know that they can pass a standard that hasn't been developed yet...

sounds alot like those Mitsubishi promises of "upgrade cards" for their big-box TV's that would allow you to switch to any input format... Four years now and they're still stuck on component input...

not that I'm bitter or anything...

www.hdmi.org has been claiming 1080p support for HDMI for as long as I can remember....
What types of video does HDMI support?
HDMI has the capacity to support existing high-definition video formats (720p, 1080i, and even 1080p). It also has the flexibility to support enhanced definition formats such as 480p, as well as standard definition formats such as NTSC or PAL.

and we all know that HDMI worked so well that they are already on HDMI 1.1.. which does not work with most older connections...

Nope - already up to 1.2a! Seriously though, I'll be pissed if I can not pass 1080p through my V2600 - can anyone confirm one way or another!?!?!

I was ready to lay down the money for the yammie 2600 but there are a few things I'm been asking around a few suppliers and they all say "I don't know"

1. Can it continue a 1080p signal, or does it recieve the 1080p and cut it back to 720p/1080i?

2. With HD-DVD and Blue-ray virtually on our door steps, will it handle the new format of Dolby Digital HD and DTS HD?

3. Is the current HDMI (1.2a?) going to be compatable with new versions? (Its been upgraded three times now!!)

4. One supplier said the video upscaling doesn't do what Yamaha portray it to do. i.e. it isn't giving you a true 720p picture from a 480i (SD) picture.

Thats too many unanswered questions to be throwing away good money on. If one of these questions is a no, then I'll wait till the end of '06 to see whats around then.

gimmie gimmie gimmie ...

Does it decode Dolby TrueHD or DTS HD?

Your one of the lucky ones if the HDMI switching is working.

I could quote one of the many other threads with people having HDMI handshake problems with various HDMI 1.1 switching recievers and cable boxes on this very site?
