rx v2500 "what exactly broke"

The up converting feature on my 2500 stoped working, all of a sudden, the picture was blured with colors bleeding, it was simply unwatchable. after spending 4 hours switching cables and eliminting other electronics as the problem it turns out much to YAMAHAS surprise that upconversion function was indeed defunct. This reciever is only 3 months old. My question is "what exactly broke" is it a chip? Do these chips have a short life span? Is this not a bonafide feature that you can rely on for a reasonble length of time. I'm very dissapointed. The 2500 is not an inexpensive reciever, now I'm concerned that this malfunction will rear it's ugly head again. If anybody has any insight regarding upconversion, something that could ease my mind I appreciate it.

Many thanks in advance.

dunno, but...

...you married it. You can rest assured that on the whole Yamaha puts out a pretty solid product. Sometimes, shiite just happens. What, with the increasing complexity of today's gear and it's relation to Murphy's law # 13* it's a tribute to the engineers that things don't go wrong more often.

If I were you, right about now I'd be looking up a local repair facility and digging out my receipt in order to have a tech answer your first question ASAP and get it fixed.

Markw I understand your "understanding", but I don't accept that, yes, it's under warranty, but this is not about repairing the reciever for free, this is about reasonable expectations, maybe there should be warning lables on the reciever "VERY COMPLEX PIECE OF ELECTRONICS SOMEFUNCTIONS MAY NOT WORK AFTER JUST 3 MONTHS

Relax

HUH !!!! You should be happy it happend in the first three months instead of it happening out of warranty. markw is dead on with his assesment. Yamaha makes great products that are very reliable. But like any company there will be some defects or issues. Especially when you consider the number of units that are made. Which is well into the thousands.

Dont mean to sound harsh but as markw stated **** happens. Be grateful it will get reapired for free and relax a bit. ;)

They do read between the lines.

(Taken from Yamaha Warranty Card)
YAMAHA Home Audio products are designed and manufactured to provide a high level of trouble-free performance. (In case of VERY COMPLEX PIECE OF ELECTRONICS MALFUNCTIONS AFTER JUST 3 MONTHS)YAMAHA Home Audio products are backed by a nationwide network of high quality YAMAHA Authorized Service Centers, providing prompt, courteous, and professional service. YAMAHA will repair or replace units covered by this warranty, without charge to the consumer for labor or materials.

I don't know why markw and anamorphic96 didn't give you the proper amount of sympathy. My guess would be its because they like me they have read numerous threads just like yours about something going wrong. It happens to every manufacture with every type of product they carry. It is for this very reason I will never buy anything from an unauthorized dealer.

Please come back and share/report how the warranty process worked for you good or bad. That information IMHO will have a larger impact on repeat business and sales than the malfunction of a chip that Yamaha bought off someone else.

Sorry for your misfortune I hope it will be your last.

You did buy it from an authorized dealer didn't you? The way I read the original post led me to believe that you are wondering how much this is going to cost you.

Yes,of course. But to me that's not the point, my concern is,is this going to happen again or is it a sympton of other problems yet to come.

I think you should relax a bit. There are a lot of Yamaha owners in these forums and this is one of the few complaints you will find. I know it sucks to have this problem so soon after you bought it. You should be confident in knowing that you did buy a good product and that it should work like new once you get it back from the repair shop. As far as I know there are no brands that are exempt from an occational problem. As far as the cause of the problem, it could be several things. So for any of us to speculate it would be foolish.

Let us know how this works out and good luck!

Things aren't perfect, you just had some bad luck. FWIW, every once in a while, there are lemons produced.

No brand name is perfect. I've owned a LOT of stuff in the past, and I've had bad Hondas, Sonys, Yamaha, Panasonics, Denons, NADs, Onkyos etc

Look, this is not a slam on YAMAHA, in fact the reciever is very impressive, and the up convert function was a was a very impressive bonus function, with my set-up the picture was dramatically improved. I'm sure other company's put out products with defects, this is not an unique situation. To make a long story short without getting into the details I replaced the reciever with a brand new one, but, I will never look at it the same, each time I turn it on I will watch and see if there is any change in the video. Like most people I use it every day, and now I'm convinced that its just a mater of time before the same thing happens again. This is probably due to lack of any understanding of how this feature works. If the potential of this product wasn't so impressive, this would hardly bother me.

You are getting a brand new one. Don't worry about it so much!

Life is too short to worry about things like this and let it take the fun out of owning it.

If it happens again, ** then** worry about it.

Excellent point Mr. Warpdrive. It's how we handle the little things in life that determine who we are. Well done my friend.

I would also start wondering if it does happen again and nobody on these forums, of the many that own a 2500, have the same issue - then what IS causing it in your case.

That's always a good question to ask. Crud happens, is a honest response and is quite often the case. But, my Z1 is over 2 years old and hasn't hiccupped once. So, I would freak if it started acting up and then it kept breaking. I would definitely want to know what was causing the issue.

But, on a 3 month failure of a product, for the first time, I would let it get repaired first, then start worrying if it happens again. Odds are good that your next problem will happen again in 30 years when your grandson sets fire to your theater by mistake. ;)

THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING !!! Receivers EVERYWHERE have found out that you people are using them for VIDEO !!! There will soon be a mass revolution of something that has been audio only all its life rejecting the implants !!! The chaos you people have caused is correcting itself !!! The world will now return to its normal state !!!

I can only thank the electrons that it happened sooner rather than later !!!

Video... it belongs in a TV....

I hope BMXTRIX is right, I'd settle for 10 or 5 or even 4 months. Just kidding. You have an optomistic view and I like that. LEPRKON on the other hand, he scares me.

You must abandon your worship of the anti-audio PbYPr and embrace the true faith of 7.1 !! Turn away from the evil that is HDMI and be reborn in DTS !!!
Your receiver knows !!! It must be appeased !!! You must kneel before it and offer sacrifice, like an Outlaw LMF-1 subwoofer or new Sound King 10 gage speaker wire !!!
You have sold your soul to the dark side of WAF and your only true chance at sonic nirvana is to find the path back to YPAO !!! Time is running out !! SAVE YOURSELF !!!

Repeat after me "My receiver says no to video, my receiver says no to video"
