RX-V2500 downconversion???

Greetings...

Got an RX-V2500 yesterday after doing alot of research in here. It's nice, very nice.

But...

I have connected a Panasonic DVD player via component to the receiver, and the S-Video monitor out to my television (older set, doesn't support component). I cannot get the DVD to play, unless I attach an S-Video cable.

The unit does appear to sense the video signal from the component, because the screen jigs a bit when I turn the DVD player on or off. But it never does anything more than show the yamaha screen...

Does the Yamaha NOT downcovert from Component to S-Video on it's monitor out? That's SCREWY. Do I just not have something set right? The book is next to useless...

Any help from Yamaha owners on this would be appreciated...

Hi

If you see on page 17 the yammy only convert Video & S-Video to S-Video or Component but the component input is showing only in component output. Maybe this help you

another 2500 ??

I too have a 2500. I hooked up my kids (Play Station 2) PS2 & Game Cube to the amp, and it sounds great. Here's my ?... My 18 year old was listening to a CD and wanted to play PS2 while listening to his music. He asked "can I play PS2, and listen to the CD from the amp @ same time" I thought it was an easy ?, but I'm stumped. Seems like a simple request...

Should be possible, it is on my Onkyo and most receivers seem to work the same way. You have to select the Video source first and then the audio source. Yamaha does tend to make simple things complicated so you may have to dig around in the manual to figure out how to do it.

The catch is that the audio source has to be an audio only input. So if the ps/2 audio and video is connected to say Video1 and the CD player is connected to the CD input, then you should be able to select Video1 followed by CD to get what you want. If the CD/DVD player that is playing a music cd were connected to a Video input, such as DVD or Video2, then it won't work because that input would be sending non-existent video.

Im not a pro and have only had my 2500 for a few weeks but from what I understand it will only upconvert. It will take s-video and sent out component but not the other way around. I could possibly be wrong. Your best bet is to call your dealer.

upon furhter review...

Thanks. I looked at my setup and found both games are tied to video inputs. I'll switch to something them around and see what happens. Sometimes the obvious is masked...
