Any thoughts on how far up the food chain this receiver would compete as a dedicated pre/pro. Would it approach reference quality?

For $999 MSRP it's certainly a good value. Check out our receiver/processor checklist...

Do you mean a goo value as a pre/pro or as a receiver?

Thanks Gene,
I am looking for some of the features that this unit has -predominantly in the video switching - would the Pre-amp section of this unit be an upgrade sound-wise from my HK AVR-8000? Or at least an equal? (If not I can always go a different route for video switching.) (I'm bi-amping my mains with Anthem PVA-2 & 5)
