Hi I was wondering if Audioholics plans to test the magic properties of Hifi mains
cables at some point from the likes of Russ Andrews or similar supplier and see if there is any truth in his technical article on the propeties of such cables.

How do we get audioholics to test hifi mains cables. I dont think they have tested any yet.

I can not post the link to his website article until I have 5 post or more for some daft reason.

I'm pretty sure they haven't done any tests because there's no measurable difference unless the bad one has a problem. Think about it- it's not in any signal path, it carries 120-240VAC 60Hz/50Hz and usually not more than 10A of current. How much difference should it make? This isn't laboratory grade equipment and it's not using signals in the micro-Volt or nano-Volt range so, unless it's in a high-saturation RF field, it's picking up 60Hz interference, usually not string enough to make much more than a hair's difference.

That daft reason is that they want to make sure real people are posting, not bots. If you look at the very bottom of the threads page, you'll see a post pad thread.

To even consider the possibility of a mains cable changing the sound, is certifiable insanity.

Hifi mains cables

I Think Russ Andrews technical report on his mains cable requires further scrutiny, nobody has yet managed to fully explain what he might be observing in his graphs, which is why i asked if audioholics planned to test any mains for these claims at reducing RF interence at these frequencies.

Do you have a link?

Remember, if he's a supplier, it's in his best interest to show something, anything, that shows a difference. If it shows a little noise riding on the wave that's not there when it goes into the equipment's power supply, it's unlikely that it will matter because it won't be there after it leaves the power supply. If it shows huge spikes, that equipment probably shouldn't be connected to that power source, anyway. A power cord is a group of conductors, period. If they have a filter inside, it should no longer be called a 'power cord'.

Hi Steve,
we go down the "Do cables make a difference?" road about two times a year on this site.

How much better can a $3,000+ power cable make a system sound?

What about the 50ft of wire that's in my wall? How will a 3ft long power cable deal with all my pesky Romex in-wall cable?

What about the miles and miles of power transmission lines that lead to my house, will it help them too?
Do you see where this whole thing is going Steve?

I'd like to suggest that someone email Russ Andrews with the questions above, and let us know what he says.
Shouldn't the onus be on Russ to prove his cables really work, and not on Audioholics for not reviewing them?

How dare you bring logic into the mix!?

I'm all for placebo, since it is in fact our brain that processes information into perception.... but how anybody can convince themselves that this might be money well spent is completely beyond me........

You said "onus"

I read 'bionic ring' ... would now be an appropriate time to jack this thred and start talking about Lindsey Wagner?
I'm pretty sure Rick jacked it when he mentioned Russ's onus. Theres a weird sentence.

Hmmm... Lindsey. Now I'm gonna jack it.
