I bought this a few weeks ago and finally got home and had a chance to listen to it. If you're not a Rush fan then it's probably not worth $25 to by it. But, if you are a fan, or someone who likes higher end recordings def get it.
The disc has these options.
Audio
LPCM 2.0 (96kHz, 24-bit)
LPCM 5.1 (96kHz, 24-bit)
DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 (96kHz, 24-bit)
I listened in DTS. Side A,( Tom Sawyer, Red Barchetta, YYZ, Limelight) well atleast to me it was side A being one of the first albums I ever bought when I was a kid, didn't blow me out of the water, but it did sound better than the cd by far. It almost felt like they wre right in the room, but I always liked these songs live over the studio version anyway. The highlight would have to be YYZ. Geddy's part really stands out with more clarity on this song, you could actually hear the separation between everynote. It actually sounded like a new song to me and gave me a new appreciation for it.
Side B. Camera Eye. The one Rush song I have never been a fan of. I'm still not. Not sure why. Maybe because it's sandwiched between Limelight and Witch Hunt. Witch Hunt blew me away. My fiancé poked her head in the room and said "wow, sounds like the singer is in the room with you!" It was def a highlight for me being one of my favorite Rush songs. It also seemed like it really benefitted the most from the rerecording process. The next gem for me was Vital Signs. Alex's reggae sound really came to life and Geddys parts were much cleaner.
Overall i think the one who benefitted most was the one known as the Militant Banana, or Mr Peart to the regular folk. His parts sounded more dynamic and I heard things easily on this disc that I had never noticed before. When I get back in town I am going to give it a listen in 2 channel and then cd to how it compares, since it also came with a cd.
Now, when is 2112 and Signals being released in this format. And Permanant Waves. And Caress of Steel. And.......
