sorry didn't answer sooner been researching

great price for the 8002.Are they an authorized dealer? reason i ask i think is obvious.either way congrats and enjoy. The best i can do locally from authorized dealer with full warranty and such is 1400.

I have contacted Pricegrabber.com and their vendor "Hypatia Way Storefront' and also I have contacted "Marantz"

Pricegrabber.com has not responded ( beside Hypatia Way Storefront, ALL of their other listed vendors except 1OneCall are not authorized Marantz on-line dealers.

Hypatia Way Storefront response: new, full-warranty.

Marantz: Pricegrabber.com is not an authorized dealer so I am not sure how they obtained the SR8002. While I don't expect any service issues with the SR8002, if one should arise though, having a product that was purchased from a non authorized dealer can complicate things.

I also provide Marantz my serial number and they are investigating.

========

This is a great forum! I did not realize before that there were authorized and unauthorized Marantz vendors. This is also where I learned about the "Big Foot" center speaker which I ordered. Next year, I plan to upgrade to 1000 Rockets!

My house is completely stereoized now: Den has the Marantz 8002 all HDMI witH Blu Ray and the best setup. The Pioneer Elite TX45 went to the media room and the Yamaha AVR went to the garage, so Now I can work in surround sound with Wireless Sennheiser 140 docking. The Patio now has outdoor speakers as speaker B on the Marantz. Life is good. :)

Cheers,

Rotel Overall

Over the last fifteen years I have owned Rotel products. I have their highest end pre-amp, amp now, and DVD Player now. Rotel has been consistent with their product. Strong, reliable, predictable sound. However, they are surely not a video company. If you want to listen to two channel audio, then they are a great price solution. For higher end audio and multi channel video, they are not my first choice.

marantz vs rotel

Nope, I am not saying marantz is better. Two channel audio. I would take rotel in a second. On another note, I found some TV settings at www.tweaktv.com

I went ahead and ordered the marantz sr8002 today. It will be replacing a rotel rsx1056.Dont know if one is actually better than the other till i make a comparison as far as reciever to reciever as far as SQ.I've had the rotel for 4 yrs now.As good as its been it's had some issues over the years that have been real annoying.Which i have come to learn is common with their processors.Their amps are a different story all together alot better than their processors.I've also own a cpl of marantz rec. and the rotel actually had replaced a marantz.None of the marantz equipment have ever given me any type of issues at all.

I've had my marantz sr8002 now for a little over a week.Still playing and testing it out, havent been able to play a full movie yet.But so far i will go on to say that i do like it better than the rotel it replaced.better imaging, soundstage and overall a warmer tone compared to the rotel.2ch as well as multi.Maybe i just like the warm sound of marantz, having had marantz before the rotel i wish i had done this sooner.

Good to hear your enjoying it. Hopefully I'll be enjoying my 8001 in the next few months while my theater is finished. Happy listening!

Rotel to Marantz

Just wanted to add my 2 cents. I went from Rotel (RSX-1065) to the Marantz SR8002. I'm very happy with the decision, and like some have said I was reluctant to switch. I was in love with the Rotel, and after 5 years with it, could operate it with ease. I've had my SR8002 for a little over a month now and I've pretty well got it figured out. If there is any difference in SQ, there may be a very slight warmth from absolute neutral compared with the Rotel. Overall, both are great receivers. I'm happy to have an up to date receiver to play Dolby TrueHD and dts-HD Master Audio soundtracks and, of course the HDMI 1.3a connectivity is great.

It's interesting that you would describe the Marantz SR8002 as warm. I just got mine Saturday and my first impression is that it seems fairly bright. I'm not sure if it just needs breaking in or if I was missing a lot with my old Yamaha receiver. There's definitely more clarity but it still seems bright. Not so much with movies but I really notice with music.

I'm not using any EQ. My speakers, Klipsch, are reputed to be bright but they didn't seem that way before. I probably have less than 50 hours on it so that may be part of it.

Other than trying to adjust to the new sonic characteristics, I love my receiver. The HDMI has simplified my connections and I like the HD radio somewhat. Public Radio sounds great, a local pop station sounds bad.

Oh, it is plenty broken in by now. Maybe it is on the other side of the curve now.:D

Warm is a subjective term, I know. I'm comparing to my Rotel only. My wife actually prefered the Marantz immediately, and she is not all that involved with my hobby/obsession. I just meant a slight bit warmer than Rotel. It could be my speakers, too. I have Canton Ergos all the way around. I also have older ears than many here, so I may not hear "bright" the way I used to.

Canton and Marantz is a match from heaven.

I think maybe I may be breaking in to the sound of the receiver. The more I listen, the more I hear detail that wasn't there before. I don't want to rag on my Yamaha because I thought it sounded great for 10 years. It seems very laid back compared to the Marantz.

This thread has grown a bit.I've had the 8002 now for about 3 weeks and it is doing great.Unfortunately i havent had the time to do any critical listening yet.But the little i have done i am extremely pleased. It replaced a rotel rsx1056 and in my opinion its a warmer sound than the neutrality of the rotel.Rotel by no means was a slouch in SQ but too many minor irritant issues.

I appreciate that comment. I was hoping they would be because I perceived the the Cantons to be a little bright before. The Marantz has smoothed the Ergos out, and I do love the sound now. Overall, I couldn't be happier.:D

It occurred to me that I wasn't comparing apples to apples. With the Marantz, I'm running all the audio through HDMI. With the Yamaha, I was using the 5.1 analogue outs. Oppo is not known for having really great sound on it's analogue outs. I was probably losing some detail before.

The more I listen to the Marantz, the more I like it but the less I'm willing to characterize the sound as being warm or crisp or anything like that.
