Rotel Amp for Studio 100s

So a few weeks ago, I purchased some Studio 100s (previous version v3) for $1800. I have them being run by. a Denon 2807 receiver and I'm left wanting more. I am thinking of getting a Rotel Amp (RMB-1075). The Denon would serve as the pre pro until some good choices with hdmi 1.3 are released.

So my questions are

1) Will there be a signifficant difference (very large room)?
2) Would I be better served with a different brand amb (perhaps NAD, Emotiva)?
3) Did I get a good deal getting the Stuio 100s (v3) for $1800? point of curiosity

You'll definitely benefit from giving more juice to the Studio 100s than your Denon can provide. I've got a 3805 and picked up the 100s about 3.5 years ago ($1650 new/pr) and added an Anthem MCA-20 (225 wpc) and have never looked back. Before adding the amp, the Denon ran pretty warm. The 100s, while a very efficient speaker, have a monstrous dip down below 3 ohms in the lower frequencies that gobbles up a lot of juice. They like to run loud, and really only sound great when they are loud, so you'll definitely want to add some extra power. Rotel, Outlaw, B&K, Adcom, Parasound, etc are all very good reputable brands, but for the kind of money that you'll shell out for a new amp (~$1k), you'll either want to make sure you've got a 30-day return policy in the event you don't like the amp or maybe shop around for a used one on Audiogon or elsewhere.

Good luck!

If WmAx sees this thread he is going to tell you to buy a Behringer EP2500 amp, which would power those speakers with great ease. It has a fan and doesn't look pretty, but it can power most anything.:)

Emotiva MPS-1 if you want good, clean power at a great price. Rotel if you have money to burn.

p.s. I am just guessing on going on reviews. My MPS-1 will be here in the morning so I should know more about its performance before long.

you've got your self top of the line speakers SOOO you owe it to yourself to get top of the line amplifier processor combo , paradigm recommends anthem (I think) haven't heard them either paradigm or anthem just saying , I'm a big rotel fan so I'll recomend a 1095/1068 combo for your speakers but that's just me basing in what I have heard.

Use audiogon or ebay and don't pay retail!

Believe me; I am about at that point.

I just put the 50" plasma in the bedroom and the 42" LCD in the office and enjoyed only hooking up 4 cables to each! I am begining to like "simple"

Hey! You aren't supposed to know that! Quit being an informed consumer and buy what you are told! Bose and Nordost for you!

I find the Denon/Rotel RMB-1075 somewhat challenged at high volume even in my small room. I would recommend a step up to the 1095 for a large room.

Now that's just good advice at least 200 wpc for the studio 100's

Emotiva really rocks the house

:D

If you want stellar build quailty, fantastic looks, great customer service AND amazing kick *** sound? Emotiva MPS1 or IPS1, either would work but the MPS1 is just a better unit overall, (power, looks, monbloc build with removable and or upgradeable amp modules...i.e., buy 2-5 channels to start and add more later as funds/ needs change.

I would caution anyone who has high expectation on their Studio 100 with more amp power. I AB compared the RX-V2400 with a pair of Anthem separates a few years ago using the Studio 100 V3; and found no audible difference whatsoever in an approximately 15X20 room. I don't think the Studios are that hard to drive.

It may be better to spend the maximum one can afford on speakers first, then the electronics. For example, a two channel system based on a pair of $6.5K S8 powered by a pair of $3K Rotel (2 channel) will do much better than a $2.5K Studio 100 plus a pair of $7K (again 2 channel) McIntosh. The former will provide strong motivation for saving up for high end amps for further SQ improvements.
