Does anyone know if the WDTV Live can bitsream DTSHD and Dolby TrueHD? I've seen a lot of people asking online, but no one seems to have a definitive answer.
Many media players currently on the market (Seagate Freeagent Theatre, WDTV Live, Asus O'Play, Patriot Box Office) us some variant of a Realtek chip and none of these players can bitstream TrueHD or DTS-HD MA. They will output lossy 5.1 only.
I am currently in the process of trying to demux a movie with DTS-HD MA, convert the audio to lpcm, and remux the movie to see if I can get my Patriot Box Office to playback the audio lpcm stream via hdmi.
I usually rip the full BD with DVDFab to my hard drive so I can see the movie previews. I play the ripped BD with an Asus Xonar sound card and Totalmedia Theatre 3 on my Win7 32-bit htpc. This setup allows me to bitstream TrueHD and DTS-HD MA to my receiver so my receiver can do the decoding rather than my htpc.
