RF remote controls on A/V ???

Hi Folks,

I am currently looking for a new home cinema set and was quite impressed of the functionallities of the Bose systems regardingt the RF remote controller that seems to work fine with all other devices. Due to this, it seems that you only have to use the Bose remote and you can skip the other remotes of TV, Bluy ray player etc...
A friend of mine also confirmed that this is working fine.

Another nice functionality is the RF remote instead of the IR remote.
This is something I really want as I want to have a second zone with music (terras outside)
With the RF, you just use your remote everywhere....

Unfortunately one big minor: Bose sound quaulity and price you pay is not OK ... So want to buy better stuff...

I saw that on the Pioneer AV receivers (like the VSX-2021, SC-LX55,...), there is RF remote.
I was wondering that the use of this RF remote control together with the HDMI-CEC functionality could be a nice alternative of the 'nice features of the Bose system'.

Anybody experience with this? Any other RF remote ideas?

Welcome to the forum, Gwen!

Others here use RF remote controls (I don't at the moment), but I know that you can buy programmable RF remote controls by themselves. Popular brands that come to mind are URC and Logitech.

For the second zone, you can also get IR repeater systems, so you don't need an RF remote control (they are nice, though ).

My point is that I wouldn't buy a receiver or home theater system based upon the remote that comes with it. Get the system that you like, and you can add a remote to it if you decide to.

If you are only looking to use one remote to control all devices, there are literally dozens if not hundreds of programmable remotes on the market, many of which are also RF and can be used with basically any device.

Buy the right product, not the one with a few bells and whistles that sound cool.

RF is highly proprietary and HDMI CEC is non-standardized so it often is flaky to troublesome when in use.

Instead, as mentioned, you should be looking for a good RF remote control system that is well reviewed.

The Harmony remotes from Logitech are by far one of the most popular for the home user as you can program them yourself, and use both IR and RF commands to run your gear. RF is extremely proprietary, so you don't really control your gear via RF, but you send commands to a RF receiver, that then converts the command to infrared (IR) and you put a IR transmitter on the front of devices which need to be controlled.

AV receivers, TVs, projectors, cable boxes, BD players, etc. are all IR controllable, and the RF receiver can handle running the show nicely.

Having controllable equipment is the key to make it all work best. Yamaha, Pioneer, and Denon all have very controllable gear via IR commands and will serve you nicely. Sony and Panasonic components (TVs, etc) also have good IR commands. Samsung BD players do NOT! But their TVs do. As do Sharp TVs.

Lots of options out there, but you really should be looking for a good product first and foremost, then put the controls in on top of the sources.

I guess that I will drop my RF idea and focus first on the AV receiver and the set of speakers.

Again => anyone has experience with the Pioneer AV receiver VSX-2021?
