Revisiting old speaks...

I recently lightened the load of my parents basement when I brought home my Boston Acoustics A400's. They'd been stored there for several years due to my mousetrap-sized apartment I was trying to live in!

I got married, purchased a house, and decided to bring them home. My intention was to try and sell them (for lack of space...I have VR975s in my den for tv, and A40s for listening in our living room) Until, I hooked them up and had a listen! Wow! I really missed the sound of these speakers. I realize they're not high end or reference sounding, but BA made a damn good speaker for the coin back in the early 80s!

I need to replace the woofers...as expected...they've deteriorated over the years, but I'm gonna hang on to them now.

Anyone else have a similiar experience with long-lost fav equipment recently??

Well, my every day listening speakers are Klipsch Cornwall IIs from 1985. Not "long lost", but 20 years old nonetheless.

I had a pair of Design Acoustics PS-103's that I bought back around 1987.
About 2 years ago I refoamed the surrounds, and put better caps in the crossovers.
I use them as a back up pair in my living room.

No need to replace the woofers, just replace the foam surrounds with new ones from Parts Express. Keep the original woofers as they are an integral part of the design of the system. It's cheaper that way, too. The folks at Audiokarma can give refoaming tips if needed, lots of refoamers over there and older Bostons are highly regarded there.

Er..uh...one problem...I live in Toronto! I'm too chicken to try and refoam myself I know I'd mess it up!

My first good speakers ("good" as in not a rack system or boombox) were Boston A60s. I loved them, everyone who heard them was impressed, and I still miss them sometimes.
