I am tring to figure out my rear speaker situation for my soon to be basement HT. I have a thread going on the HT setup section. Basically, I will either have no back wall at all or a slidable heavy fabic serving as one.

I know I want larger L, C, and R speakers, but need smaller one's in the back if I am to ceiling mount the rears FOR A 7.1 config.

What do you think about mounting mod 1's on the ceilings for the rear surrounds? Has anybody used these when they have different front speakers? How is it working for you?

smaller ceiling mounts

I am no expert, but I think it would work. That said, I ended up going with Klipsch. They make an aimable ceiling mounted speaker that pairs nicely with the Reference line.

My front speakers are floorstanding and my rear ceiling mounted are 8 inch with 6 inch ceiling mounted speakers taking the 6th & 7th channel and it sounds spectacular. However, all my speakers are matched so your situation may differ.

First Post... I have the Orb Mod 2 speakers and Orb sub and just picked up a Yamaha RX-Z9 receiver and am not so sure I'm happy with the sound. It's a new installation with all good quality wires and connections. I thought the sound would have been better and am wondering if the room has anything to do with that. It's a 20X18 room with 18 foot ceiling (great room). It is a echo chamber for sure but would that make the sound all that bad? Looking at some wall treatments and bass traps but that will take some time to get installed. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

What are you comparing it to?

Sorry for getting back to you late on this. I am comparing it to a Yamaha HTIB that I purchased for under $500 4 years ago. Very low end speakers with 75watts per chanel driving them. You would think with the Orb Mod 2 speakers and a Yamaha RX-Z9 you would hear a considerable difference? I think my limitation is the room. We have just finished the room (painting etc) so I will be next working on some sound absorbing pannels. Will keep you posted.

Thanks,
