Review New Yamaha's?

I'm thinking of selling my 2500 and buying either the 1800 or 3800. But before I do I was hoping the pro's here (Gene) are going to do a reveiw of either one or both. Any chance of that?

It is likely it will take some time for them to review it. I haven't even seen an ONkyo TX-SR805 being reviewed anywhere yet, let alone any new yamaha's

Based on their review history, though, there seems to be a better chance of the Yammy getting a review than the Onkyo. The last Onkyo receiver review that I saw was from four years ago.

Receiver info.

There should be more info on the Yamahas and other new receivers following the CEDIA show in september. I don't think the new Yamaha receivers are shipping yet so it will be a little while for reviews. I wouldn't expect any significant power difference from your current yamaha, but the new one will have HDMI and a lot of video features.

Actually the new Onkyo will be the first HDMI 1.3 receiver reviewed on Audioholics. That review should be coming out shortly.

I am scheduled to do a Yamaha Z11 review after the Audioholics party.

It seems Denon has gone silent lately around the internet but we will catch up with them to schedule a review of one of their new receivers.

I heard from a dealer, I know it is an extremely unreliable source, that Denon had not updated their power supplies (not sure how important that is) and said they sounded like crap, in his humblest opinion. This dealer sells Denon, Yamaha, and Integra. They tend to favor Integra quite heavily with Yamaha as a close second. They say they might not carry the new Denon line. It seems rather stupid to me, given what he said about Yamaha and Integra. The Integra, according to them, is neutral and works well with the Boston Acoustics speakers they sell, but Yamaha (RX-V1800) "fuzzies" up the tweeters on the Boston Acoustics (Seth rolls his eyes at this statement).

The Yamaha RX-V1800 is quite nice by the way, clean fit and finish and solid amplifier performance. Can't comment on HDMI or surround performance, only stereo. I do feel that the Onkyo TX-SR805 trumps it. I listened to one in a closed room with Boston Acoustics VR series and a Velodyne DPS-12 and it was very dynamic, sweet powerful sound, sonic bliss.:D

Gene, Which Onkyo is being reveiwed. I really wanted to upgrade to one of the new Yamaha's but was dissapointed they didn't include HD Radio whereas the Onkyo's do. I don't know much about Onkyo's. Are they reliable as Yamaha's and do they have good customer support. Also given what you already know about the new Yamaha's (1800 & 3800) what are the chances these would not be as good as the last ones?

Yeah Gene, which model Onkyo is getting reviewed.

Hopefully the 875 or 905 because I'm interested to see how the Silicone Optix HQV Reon processor stacks up.

Let us know!:)
