Respecting all people who post.

The world is made up of all kinds of people with all kinds of opinions.
Some opinions are important to some people some advice is important to others.
We should respect each other's opinion and not try to shut them down when they post something that may not be helpful to you but will be helpful to others. I think we should all respect each other here and everywhere.
I would never be rude to anyone and I think no one should be rude to me if I post something that is my opinion it should be respected just like when others post something that's their opinion it should be respected.
Let's all play nice and respect each other's opinions that's what makes the world go around.

While I agree that we should all strive to be more respectful to each other, I must point that that this is a commercial forum and not a public location, so free speech isn't mandated here. Forum rules clearly prohibit some types of speech such as hate and violence.
I promise to you as a person - I will strive to be respectful, but I provide no such guarantees for your opinion if it's factually/objectively incorrect or in other words, see this classic XKCD:

I don't think anybody has been rude to you. I think they have tried to point out to you that your opinions are often not balanced.
We do enjoy robust debate. We try to produced balanced objective advice. This is important for novices, and also to guide individuals sucked into the vortex of snake oil, to help them not throw cash at these sharks.

I can say this, as I think I have more vintage gear in good working order, than anyone else on the forum. In fact quite a number of items would grace any audio museum.

However, it takes continuing care, especially the tape machines. As I pointed out in a previous post, there has been good and bad in all eras. I will say that in past times, the increased cost of good gear was largely in the interest of the customer. Whereas now, there is excess on cosmetics and money fritted away on nonsense of imaginary value. This has needlessly widened the gap between quality gear, and the mediocre to awful.

I do agree about receivers though, as that concept is long overdue for a rethink. Cramming a ton of power amps in, as has been the fashion, is just an open invitations to trouble. So I don't even touch'em with a barge pole! However, this may be remedied as we move to active speakers, with DSP. That will be a huge move to improved quality at affordable prices. I believe it will be a quantum leap in performance, and improve reliability. That trend will end the receiver. If it was not for the world turmoil we would be heading their fast now. However, I think this run of, and still continuing crises, will more likely than not result in a reset, and bring about the much needed changes in its aftermath. In the meantime be kind and gently to the gear you have. If you blow it up you may have to get used to silence for quite some time.

C’mon, there’s gotta be some background.
I tried, I really tried, but I can't pass up this post without a comment.

First off, I agree completely with good manners and a manner of composing our replies and posts that respects others. I have tried to do that through all my years here. Some folks have found even my posts objectionable however. I think those posts found objectionable by others are an opportunity to provide some instruction.

Back in the day I said something less than intelligent and far from factual about routers. I didn't think it through and in retrospect it was a foolish and inaccurate thing to say. A certain individual rhetorically jumped on me with both feet and stomped my reply flat. I was hurt by that and it stung pretty bad. The truth is (in retrospect and with the help and comments of other posters) my reply was factually inaccurate and some would say "stupid".

I had a learning experience. It reminded me, forcefully, that if I'm going to post things as some version of a fact, it should be some version of a fact and not some airheaded opinion. Opinions are another story completely. I botched a post and the community let me know in no uncertain terms. I have come to love that in the AH.

If you post opinions, as opinions, and don't try to masquerade them as facts, I think you can do that here.
But, if you cross that line and paint whimsy and opinion as fact, the AH will likely let you know.

Opinions are like a$$holes and there is no shortage of either 'round here. Anybody coming around here hawking their own wares or looking for subscribers while pretending to engage in casual conversation about one thing or another can go f#%k themselves. I say this with all due respect, of course.;)

I only respect those that can tell the difference between facts and opinions. This is where the world is breaking down.

I suspect...

Op started a thread about the superiority of vintage gear compared to today's offerings, some people disagreed with his opinion and now he has no respect for those posts...

There is a long history of butt-munching idiots here that aren't interested in supporting the community for what it was created to be: a place to share, discuss and learn about AV gear. I go through phases of interest based on the presence of those who don't support the community, but I also strive to give back for the time I was here learning and asking silly questions. ;)
That said, I agree with a lot of what has been brought up.
If you don't know, ask.
If you don't know, don't pretend to.
If you might know, offer help and welcome correction.
If you do know, help and correct others.
And yes, don't be mean... it serves no purpose.
If you aren't interested in the community and would rather toot your own horn, just go the F away.

We have a good core of members that participate pretty regularly and I always welcome seeing posts from them, even some of the more smart-@ss friends. ;) Earnest posts are usually met with respect.

ooooh. you got a new avatar. I like it.
This old thing? :p

It's art from TOOL's Ænima album. The "Third Eye". There's a gif version I wanted to use where the pupils roll but it doesn't work as an avatar.

I would have bet money it had to do with Tool somehow. But, I couldn't find anyone to accept my wager.
Good looking eyeballs. And yes, the AH forum is a little backward in that it doesn't accept moving gifs.
I'm just happy it accepts avatars at all at this point in the movie

I believe "butt munching idiots" is my new favorite phrase of the day. Normally, I try to use my favorite phrase of the day in at least 2 more sentences. I may just have to savor this and not reprint it too much
