Requesting Impedence Information

I will soon receive a Sony STR-DG820 A/V tuner at home. According to the owners manual online, it has 8 Ohm output at it's speaker jacks. I had intended to use 5 Samsung speakers and a Samsung unpowered Woofer that I already own with the A/V Tuner. However, upon reading the specifications for the speakers I learned that the five small spekers are 8 Ohms but the Woofer is only 3 Ohms.

If I use those speakers will the 3 Ohm woofer be a problem for either the Woofer or the Tuner. I do understand that a lower impedence would make the woofer more easy to blow out if I don't keep the volume lower to it then to the five other speakers, but how about damage to the amplifier?

Thank you all. Any help would be appreciated.

Unless that Sony has a built-in subwoofer amplifier, (which virtually NO non-HTIB receivers have), then it's a moot point.

You won't be able to use it with that unit's LFE/subwoofer output, which requires an amplifier. You can use a powered sub with it, but not a passive.

Or, you can buy an amlifier for it, but that would be good money after bad. You're better off getting a powered subwoofer to start with.

If, somehow, you do manage to connect the three ohm woofer to the eight ohm receiver, there's a good possibility that it will damage the reveiver and void the warranty. On the plus side, the woofer should be fine.
