Hey folks,

I'm new here, and have been struggling for some time now, and decided to register on this site, running out of options. Running the HK 354 through Polk RM6750. Always had trouble with the receiver and PS3. Receiver would commonly try to re-discover the audio, and there is a ridiculous delay in menus, where I would have to skip over 6 selections before the audio would kick in. Same applied to all sources... a few seconds of WB or New Line etc... would have to be up before aud kicked in.

To top it off, its begun to drop video and audio for seconds at a time every so often (approx 5 - 15 min).

Steps taken, left her powered down for 3 days, blew what little dust there was out, and set it back up fresh. Issue has been less frequent. Well ventilated - it sits on a dresser all by itself. I know its all a long story, just thought it would be best to include as much detail as possible, because you fellas seem like wizards.

The Polk set is second hand, and I'm looking to upgrade completely to a new setup. Budget is approx. $1000 CAD. System I was looking at the the Sony Mu Te Ki - lame I bet, but matching timber and bravia sync, figured could help. I realized after checking out pioneer's site that I don't want to sacrifice excellence for functionality. There has to be some good medium.

Any guidance toward a high end receiver in this budget, would be awesomely appreciated. I don't need multiple rooms or fancy features like ipod/phone, Zones, etc... Just the best darned audio I can score from a single source in a single room. The rest is bonus.

I greatly appreciate any and all hospitality, and look forward to this being the only noob post I plague you all with.

Regards,

Definitely up for updating the firmware, though because the overheating cropped up recently, and had not been there from square one, I think she's shot. The fuse case is scalding hot on her even 15 min of it being shut off and unplugged. Is that normal? Is cooling improved from the update in your experience?

I'll update it tonight and give it some moderate stress test this weekend, though then I still wonder if there are any receivers out there under $1k that perform better than these HKs by ... 20% or so? If too, I could ask, without anyone wanting to put a bullet in me, do you dudes happen to have a guide to choosing speakers according to receiver? Thank you in advance for any help.

I have buyers lined up to take the whole setup I have right now for $450. Price being low as it is just from panic/concern of it being about to brick. :(

Ty again Wes for your help.
