What is wrong with the woofer? If it's just the surround that's torn or rotted, you might be able to repair it yourself - Parts Express sells kits for that purpose.

At the risk of being insultingly obvious: have you already contacted Yamaha to ask?

Hi

I recently checked and in the UK all drivers are still avaliable at a price, around £117 UK pounds each. You will spoil the sound and looks of the speaker if you fit a non standard driver. I got the details from Yamaha who put me in touch with the UK spares distributer.

Hope this helps

I Need a Yamaha NS-1000M Woofer too !

while moving one of my Yamaha NS-1000 monitors was dropped. as a result the magnet in the woofer shifted and now the cone is frozen. knowledgeable repair people tell me that it cannot be fixed and requires a replacement.
can you give me info on the UK source (or any source) that still has replacement woofers for the NS-1000 Monitor?
Thank You - Thank You - Thank You

Yamaha Japan is still selling parts for this speaker including tweeters/mids and woofers as well as crossover. I recently ordered a pair of mid/tweeters at a considerable cost directly from Japan. The NS-1000M has paper cone woofer so you are lucky that replacements are still available, in my case I have the carbon fiber NS-1000x and no replacements are there fore me, even in Japan.

Yamaha NS1000M

Hi,
I have these NS1000M almost 30 years. They are open front (no grill) and therefore, shame on me, they have collected dust over the MID/Tweeter dome top. Also the woofers show some mild humidity stains on the membrane, besides the dust. But all membranes are complete w/o tears.

So, my question is, to preserve this masterpiece, what should I actually do?
- Buy new woofers?
- Vacuum them?

Or simply do nothing?

I am used to my Quad ESL-57 and these NS1000 sound a bit boomy and much less directive. Does it mean that they are in a bad shape (or is it me? :)

Thanks a lot!

I would dust them very, very gently, or simply leave them alone.

As for preferring the Quads, that is a matter of taste; many people like those Quads very much, so it is not terribly surprising that you would like them more than another speaker.
