Replacement for Bose Wave Radio

We have a Bose Wave Radio in our dining/living room and want a replacement system that provides separation and fuller sound.

We're looking for a system to play CDs as well as connect our iPods. We don't need video/surround.

We're considering the Rotel RA-1062 and the B&W DM601 S3 or DM602 S3 speakers. We're also thinking about the Rotel RCD-1072.

Is there a better combination for the price? Are there other bookshelf speakers we should consider in place of the B&Ws? Will the small bookshelf speakers provide enough base, or will we need a sub-woofer, too?

Thanks for your help.

What kind of budget are you looking at?

As far as speakers go, have you listened to the B&Ws? There are many, many other brands out there that are worth hearing. You should try to listen to as many speakers as you can to get a feel for what you like. Here are some more brands to consider:

Phase Technology
Paradigm
PSB
Energy
Klispch (Reference Series only)
RBH

There are many other options as well. Shop around to find what you like. Just make sure you don't get sucked into the expensive cables crud.

Mini system

If you select an efficient pair of bookshelf speakers, you should be able to connect them to one of the office type mini CD player/tuner systems. It won't take a ton of power to play louder and deeper than your Bose Radio.
Just make sure it has a line input for the ipod.
