so im looking at building my first speakers to replace the ones on my pc
so when i was building my pc i bought
these
and now im quite tired of their small sound

so i have some questions
should i replace the entire system including the subwoofer?
or just the satelite speakers?
ill keep the center speaker for now
it sitting on top of my monitor
so a bigger speaker wont really fit up there

and now on to the design questions
i plan on using different sizes of speakers in the satelite speakers for full range coverage
(full range of human hearing that is)

my question is if i take the sound from the speaker system and pipe that to the speakers i will have to use an amp right?

i guess i should start with where to buy speaker components

What are your expectations with this system? Is this your primary area for movies/music or just gaming, online videos;):D? Also, what is the size of the room and what abilities do you have to position/place speakers?

its me bed room
so its full of crap
i can put the front right and left in the corners of my room
and i can attach the rear to a bookcase that i made
its my everyday pc
i use it for everything
and i would really like to hear more from those rear speakers
as it stands right now i dont hear anything from them unless i put my ear up next to them
so im really leaning toward getting rid of the entire system and going from my sound card directly to my speakers
budget?
ionno
ill buy parts one at a time if i have too
my dad has a set of speakers as old as me and they still work great!
so it will be a worth while investment for me

I absolutely LOVE my Harman Kardon Soundsticks ... I have had them for about 3 years now. The little satellites are about 10 inches tall and HEAVY. The system really puts out a great overall sound and I think you would be surprised with the quality. Personally I don't use a rear channel on my computer because I have never really heard a setup that sounded convincing; if I want to get fully immersed in a movie I just go watch it on my HT.

Anyway, yeah, it is 2.1, but it sounds like it would fit your budget and situation ideally. They really look great too.
