Hello all...
I have an old Adcom 555 II that just lost its right channel. I've had separates for the longest time with similar quality amps powering my center and rear speakers with a Lexicon DC-2 processor as the preamp.

Anyone reccommend replacing the amp or getting a new receiver and simplifying things? And any suggestions on the receiver? ( Main speakers are B&W Matrix 804...)

Thanks

I would fix that amp. It was designed by Nelson Pass. The only problem is that it has several different versions for the output stage. I think the output transistors are Toshiba TO3s in banks of four or five.

You won't get a receiver amp to perform like that one.

You didn't indicate where you live and it's impossible to recommend someone but that's not a throw-away piece. Call around and ask around for recommendations. Ask the shops about their service warranty, qualifications, experience, turn-around, etc.

I'm in Ann Arbor, Mich. I was thinking I had this piece repaired about 4 years ago...going to look up the stereo shop and find out.

I Emailed Adcom on your behalf and they have kindly sent me the circuit and the service manual. Good companies will do that, but try and get those items out of Onkyo or Yamaha.

That is a great looking amp. It has two banks of six power transistors in push pull in each channel. So there are 12 output devices per channel! It pushes 325 watts per channel into 4 ohms.

You won't find any amps anywhere close to that sort of design in a receiver.

Adcom did tell me they have an exchange program. That amp is still in production, and they will give you a quote on sending that one to them and them sending you a new one.

The file exceeds the limit allowed on this site, like everything else I try and upload.

So you can download them here from my website.

I hope this helps!
