I thought the Denon 5308 receiver and DVD-3800BD use the Reon HQV.

What's the difference between Realta and Reon?
According to the product sheet, they use:

Realta SXT2 HQV processing for i/p and scaling.

Graphics cards don't scale video
Hmm... Bad asumption on my part. Am I wrong in assuming that it is the graphics card manufacturers are providing the algos? I'm still curious of anyone knows how the pc scaling solutions compare to the Realta and Reon solutions?

Is the Reon chip substantialy better than the Faroudja chip for video upconversion. I need to purchase an AV receiver now and I am trying to obtain real info on video processing differences in the 2000 to 2500 range for AV Receivers. I want the best video I can get as well as streaming audio capabilities. I am looking at the Integra 8.8 as the solution to these variables.
There is something else that almost no one seems to be considering in this thread, except for j_garcia:

The Oppo 981 uses Faroudja and is cited as being as good or better than the HD-DVD players at upscaling though. Plus it does SACD and DVD-A :)
The Oppo DV-981HD uses DCDi by Faroudja:

The implementation of the chip is at least as important as the chip itself. You will find that two devices, both with the same chip, can perform quite differently. So just buying based on what chip is in the thing is not a good idea. You might get lucky and buy something that is great, but it might not be.
