Any of you folks rented speakers for an event before. I'm not renting my own of course, but I'm getting married and she wants to play some music off of the computer. I figured my external sound card coupled with my Behringer A 500 can easily drive anything. I'm gonna see if I can find those Behringer 2030ps for rental. I'm thinking it would be more than enough for the gathering. Wondering if anyone else has a recommendation.

While it's a good monitor with all that implies, you'll probably want something more comfortable dispersing sound over a larger, wider area. Some larger JBL and Peavy speakers may be better suited for your needs here. You might want to rent collapsable pole stands to go with whatever speakers you wind up with.

I do hope someone else will be manning the sound system that day.

I dont know what kind of size an event your talking about here but I would think something along the lines of very efficient horn speakers with large woofers would be more the appropriate choice vs some small bookshelves. Especially when everyone starts getting a little loose and really wants to dance ;)

Find a friend who works at a school and see if you can borrow the portable sound system. Be sure to return it!

I think we're missing some key facts, like size of venue... will the behringers really handle a large area with a lot of people talking and drinking?

I assume it's similar to an Iowa reception with lots of beer and dancing...

I used to rent PA speakers from time to time when I was DJ'ing in the 80's. Most pro audio shops will have a variety of speakers to rent that you can choose to fit your venue. As a rule, it's not really expensive to rent them for a weekend. This is what I would suggest for a one time deal.

DJ'ing in the 80's! I was just turing 11 in '89. Not that I'm hinting you're showing your age here...I will say this, 80's music rocked. I still rock out to Salt-n-Pepa's "Push it" to this day.

You're right. 80's music rocked. In the early 80's, the economic situation was very much the same as we have right now but the music was better.
