Renting Home with Ceiling Speakers

Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving!

My wife and I are renting a house with speakers in the ceiling, as well as a volume dials in each room with speakers wife loves music and I’d like to get the speakers working for playing music as one of my Christmas gifts for her, will not be playing movies or games through it.

Below is the layout of the speakers in the house:

• 4 speakers in kitchen entertainment area. Has volume control.
• 2 speakers in dining area. Has volume control.
• 2 speakers in office. Has volume control.
• 2 speakers in master bedroom. Has volume control.
• 3 speakers in bathroom. Has volume control.
• 2 speakers on patio. No volume control.

So there are 13 speakers inside and 2 speakers outside.

What appears to might be the hookup is in the Kitchen/Entertainment area behind a spot to put a tv.

I have attached a picture of the possible hookup spot, internal ceiling speakers, patio speakers, and volume dial.

Does anyone know what I would need to get this to play music throughout the house by connecting to a phone’s Bluetooth?

Looking for a budget friendly solution if possible. Thanks in advance!

A 12ch amp and a 3ch amp without knowing more. Parts Express and others sell a 12ch amp for distributed audio

It’s doubtful this can be sorted out over the internet. For starters, the hook-up panel doesn’t have enough terminals to account for the list of 15 speakers.

Your best bet is to get a multi-channel amplifier, make connections to the kitchen / entertainment panel, and see where you get sound. Home Theater Direct is a good source for multi-channel amplifiers. Alternately, you can probably find used multi amps on ebay for good prices. However, you’d probably “be on your own” with those, while HTD could offer support.

Bluetooth capability can be added with a simple Bluetooth receiver that could plug into the amplifier.

I don't think we will sort this out long range. It looks like there was a set up for home AV powered from a receiver, and then a sound only system for the rooms with volume controls, possible from a zone 2 of the AV receiver.

It is really difficult to sort these systems out without being there with test equipment. More often than not these systems are an awful mess, poorly thought out and beyond redemption.

Before you spend any money on equipment, I strongly recommend you have an experienced installer visit the home.

I don't think he should spend any money at this time. As you say the terminals seem to be at odds with the speaker layout. I am wondering though if there was a receiver driving a multichannel AV system that is wired some place, but unlikely to be using the ceiling system. There is also wiring for two powered subs.

I wonder if there was a 70 volt PA amp with transformers at the speakers. This is the only way I can make sense of this. As I said usually these systems are just awful abominations, done wrong by some builder or one of his pals.
