I use a DD-15 and absolutely love it. Great build, flexibility and user interface. Perfectly controlled and clean in 2 channel 5.1 channel music and it provides plenty of rumble and wall shaking when I use it for movies. I actually do minimal tweaking of the built in EQ and allow my TACT pre/pro to apply its room correction. You can find them on Audiogon for about $2,400 for those looking to buy one on the cheap. That's where I picked up my 2nd one.

Well I agree, I'd be a right rat-bastid if I took advantage of a friend who was out of town by taking his stuff...:D

No this was all on the up and up. He was very encouraging, since he wasn't going to use it personally for awhile.

Sheep, I know you're Canadian and don't read the English language well...No problem, but every word does count.:D

Ron,

I have a DD-18 (just purchased) and have been following your threads here and on the AVS Forum. Much good info that I have used to fine tune the DD-18 in my difficult room. Thanks for blazing the trail.

It does sound very good but I like listening more than tweaking. My problem is getting more than 30 minutes here and there to play with the EQ. Seeking the holy grail of flat FR is all trial and error and in my case, includes a lot of errors. In the meantime, it sounds really good.

Understood...I move the mic a foot and I've got a different FR curve, so it's pretty much screw the rest of the room :D . I'm not much of a tweaker myself, but feel I should train myself, because when this goes back, I'm springing for EQ. It creates such a rich tonal signature. It's very addictive.

Boy you aren't kidding re the slight mic movement affecting the FR curve. My answer is a new dedicated HT space and that is the goal. In the meantime, it's just get it as good as possible.

Since you are in or soon will be in the market for EQ, I saw an SMS-1 on Audiogon this morning for a good price. :)

Haha. I noticed that too, the EQ curve goes to hell if I move it anywere forward of my listening position. I managed to get a good average response +/- 1 seating position (thus good response for 3 people on the same couch). I also showed my wife how poor the sound is if you puts her head on the armrest, so I recommended to her that she keep in a firm upright positions while watching movies. LOL

My wife is always telling me to turn the system down, until I let her sit in my seat :D . She sits in a peak...:p

hidog, I thought you replaced the DD-18 with the EP600 already?

You are correct sir. I sold my DD-18 and purchased the EP-600. Then, I purchased another DD-18 and sold the Axiom. Not to mention a Rocket UFW-12 that was in the mix there for a while. That makes 9 subs in 2 years.

I'm sticking with the DD-18 for a while. With the on-board EQ it is the best overall performer for music and to my ears, has a bit more authority on the low end.

that kinda makes me still want to get a dd. but I thought you said the ep600 was better "all around" because of your size room.

Always go for the best you can afford, then stretch your budget by about 20% and then make the purchase. This way you'll save money in the long run. Upgrading costs money, and you usually take a loss selling your used equipment.
